As I understand it there were restrictions on the land before the complex was built and Kassam used the fact it would remain for "leisure use" and possibly providing a ground for football as a way to justify building on it in the first place ..... "There is a restrictive covenant that was put in place by Oxford City Council when the land was first released under the terms of a Development Agreement with Firoka (Oxford United Stadium) Limited to construct the Kassam Stadium. This requires the site to be used primarily for football until 14th October 2026. This does not provide any right for Oxford United to use the Stadium, only that football is required to be a primary use at the site until 14th October 2026. The reality is therefore after 30th June 2026 Oxford United will have no legal right to use or occupy the Kassam Stadium, there is no right of renewal in the licence, there is no statutory security of tenure (these have been excluded following the correct statutory procedures) and therefore the club is looking for a new home ground."

It does seem crazy when things like this go against all common sense and logic. There is currently a stadium there that is bringing in money and will continue to do so long as Oxford United are a football club. If the owner wants out then he could sell it as it is. It may generate more money by turning into houses or commercial building but surely it would be far simpler to build on land that doesn't have a stadium to demolish. It seems crazy to me. particularly if Oxford united then have to go and build another new stadium. As someone said earlier in the thread it seems some people need have their heads banging together.

The location of the current site is diabolical. The new proposed site is right next to a railway station and 2 park and rides as well as being much easier to access the city centre it’s also much easier to get to and away from. Hope it happens.

It depends, will we still enjoy our annual 3 points like we do at the Kassam?

Was going to mention the OUFC aims on the fruit market thread . As their target is 2026 . 16,000 stadium on council land. This must surely poibt to Rovers looking at a similar timescale. Clubs have 3 years to go all seater in the championship. Rovers get promoted this season and new stadium ready for season 4 in the championship....you never know.

The new ground is fingers crossed going to be built near Oxford parkway (Kidlington) out of town but will be great for away fans to come via road or rail.
By the way rovers fan who lives in oxon!
I fully support oufc in this plan as it gets them out of the last link to Kassam!
As what is to happen to the Kassam stadium it would not surprise me if he wants to turn it into a mini o2!

I’m not against buying Oxfords 3 stands from Mr Kassam and relocating to St Phillips. Add our new South Stand and hello to the Fruitihad. Deffo a deal to be done….the timelines work as well.

They could always ground share at Swindon if they become homeless. 😎👍
