Hi, an Oxford United fan here in peace. Our club is desperately trying to secure a new stadium site, or we’ll be homeless from 2026. With that in mind, if anyone on here would be happy to fill in a short online questionnaire being run by Oxfordshire County Council, our fans would be massively grateful. It only takes about five minutes or so to fill in the short online form with positive answers at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/C8O8VI/ by 23 July 2023. The benefits to you as away fans will be: A sustainable stadium right next door to a major railway station in Oxford Parkway (a 5 minute train ride from Oxford City Centre) and opposite a large Park&Ride site, which would make it one of the easiest, greenest grounds to get to in the UK. Anyone that has travelled to the Kassam knows how difficult it is to get there. The train ride from Bristol Temple Meads to Oxford is 1hr 20. A day out in Oxford would be so much easier before the game. Proper drinking, food and entertainment options at the ground itself, compared to embarrassing facilities currently on offer at our current ground or nearby. A modern, well-designed ground which will help to support a proper atmosphere, rather than the soulless, three-side ground we have now. A few sentences on any of the above for the survey’s final comment box would be really helpful in showing our County Council that the new ground will be sustainable, increase spending in Oxfordshire, and provide excellent facilities for home AND away fans. We all appreciate the value of a good away day, whether we’re potentially playing you in a league or cup game from 2026 onwards. Taking a few minutes to support a fellow club before it becomes homeless in just a few years would be massively appreciated. Thank you.

With respect, we can't even get a ground built for ourselves...
Bored of seeing clubs such as Bournemouth, Brighton that in the past have had buckets of money collected for them and somehow end up in the Premiership whilst our own club struggles away in league 1 and 2.
I want a better home experience for The Gas.

This is what frightens me about selling a ground we (sic) own and then get a lease.
It shouldn't worry me as in 50 years time, I will be long gone, but imagine if our grandkids have to go through the doubt of surviving like we did after the Eastville fire and 85-87.
Another Twerton won't be an option then.
Who knows, maybe in 100 years the council may develop a San Siro type mega stadium that both aero football teams use!

I understand the current owners and Kassam don't get along, but the concept of building a new stadium while the Kassam then ends up empty seems a bit strange. Both need their heads knocking together and would seem the best thing the local council could do is make it clear to Kassam the current stadium will not get redeveloped for other purposes and tell him to sort things out with Oxford United - guess I might be missing something but can't see why they need a new stadium or what Kassam can do with an empty one ....... Looks like Oxford also looking for "free" land from the council - a nice competitive advantage if you can get it.

If football even exists in 50 years I doubt many people will be watching it in a ground. They will all be streaming via 3D headsets from any position they choose in the pitch! A very long term lease would be very different to being renters. Wael isn’t going to leave us with anything short term that jeopardises our long term future.

Of course you’re right but football seems a business where ego and greed trumps common sense.👍 UTG!

Eastville was worth more as an IKEA, the Mem more as a Sainsbury's, perhaps Kassam feels he can get more out of the land? As you say why don't the Council just say they won't grant pp for anything else, Bury and Worcester councils have done that.

I would like to support it, but as we always win at the Kassam, it’s a no from me.

Kassam owns the whole complex including the Hotel next door so a redevelopment of the stadium site would probably benefit him financially.

As I understand it there were restrictions on the land before the complex was built and Kassam used the fact it would remain for "leisure use" and possibly providing a ground for football as a way to justify building on it in the first place .....

Ah, I suppose the hotel is classed as leisure use. Gymnasium and restaurant complex it is then.

Probably everybody gains with the council getting somebody else to finance the development of their own land, a bit like the FM being the centre piece of the St Phillips Marsh re-development.

How are Oxford going to finance a new stadium to be ready by 2026?
