In recent years yes. We would not be in league 1 with out our loans. With Darrel no as he never used them !

The 20/21 group led to 3 signings.
Is that a good measurement of the success of loans?
Out of the othe two one is prem while the other non league.

The games changed over the years it seems the only way to remain competitive is to now use the loan market to the full extent. What the list in the OP shows is that JB uses the loan system far better than any previous Rovers manager.

Most clubs use the loan market to their advantage. We wouldn't have went up without loan players and we have signed Taylor and Connolly since.
Plymouth got promoted with some decent loan players last season. They have since signed Mumba and Whittaker on permanents and signed Azaz on loan again.

What the list in the OP shows is that JB uses the loan system far better than any previous Rovers manager. Agree the game has changed. The fans of football league clubs have been too anti the FL Trophy to realise what has been happening in plain sight. The big clubs have been buying up all the talent. You can look at that time period and say "Has our youth development been the best it's ever been?" simply due to the fact we are now selling players at a younger and younger age. It is a self fulfilling prophesy. We(and I mean that as football league clubs) are selling our talent younger (as we need the cash). The bigger clubs are buying so many that they then have to send them out on loan. There has never been as many players from the top 30 clubs in England available for loan than there has been in the last few years. Definition of success is interesting. Anderson playing for Newcastle in Champions league. That show we were very lucky to have him here. So a bit of a one off. You have club success and you have player success For the player, going back you your club and breaking into the first team is success for the player, so you could say Quansah loan was a success for him. However, using that definition the Connor Taylor wasn't a success for the player. For us, we have to benefit in one of two ways: The player performs and helps us achieve better results that we would have without them: Anderson - Success Taylor - Success Quansah - not a success Or we say that a loan is a chance to try before you buy: Taylor - Success Conolly- Success (I am sad he has gone out on loan) Thomas - The jury is still out for me. Great goal on Saturday, needs to work on his end product more. Certainly moving towards success than not success at this point. McCormick - This one is very interesting. Was great on loan, however I Don't think we have ever seen the best of him. In the relegation side, he stood out as one that gave a sh**, but hasn't quite got there yet. If it wasn't for the talent purchase, these players would be playing for the smaller local sides closer to home. What I don't understand is why are we letting our kids out on loan and training someone else's kids? |

Without the Dunfords getting financial loans we wouldnt have the Mem.
Wael obviously likes loans as this is getting the money to build the temporary South Stand.
This makes it seem beneficial, but then we have the Higgs Wonga type loan and that was very much a hindrance.

It’s a benefit to us of course for all the reasons above. All teams have them and to not have them would be a distinct disadvantage. And tbf to JB he has managed to get decent loans and the parent clubs must be very pleased with BRFC as most of those who’ve been here have gone back better players. No real argument is it?
Interesting that there’s no list for season 20/21 although a loan, McCormack, was probably our best player that season.

Part of the reason must be the enormous gap between youth team and League 1. It’s why we send them out on loan to the upper levels of non league. Isn’t it? Without the development team now to bridge that gap between youth team and League 1 it makes it very hard for younger players. Given that, I hope that Jed Ward, Ryan Jones and Greenslade get chances in our first team as they seem to be the standouts of the younger players. But I don’t think there’s any question that our loans now are a class above what we’ve had before, generally. UTG! |

I hate the whole idea of loans even though they have always been in the game since I started watching.
Basically 'borrowing' players from other sides and it becomes a battle of 'who you know' rather than trying succeed with, and develop your own players.
If the loan system was eradicated it would surely stop the top clubs from stockpiling the youngsters too, they have a job currently trying to crow bar themselves into the pizza trophy to get them men's games.
The number of loans you can play keeps going up too. Playing a team half filled with someone else's players just doesn't sit right with me, even though we have benefitted from it of late.

If that short term project is in the division above it’s worked, and even if not. It gives us the potential for much better quality of player for smaller outlay, potentially leaving more money to keep or develop our own players. As someone said times has changed and the majority of clubs at EFL level who progress have high quality loans. Just look at the Championship last season. Sheffield United, Luton, Burnley all promoted, with some good loan players. Please don’t say, they are bottom of the premiership so has not worked. I bet you not one of them one would turn down the opportunity. |

I bet you not one of them one would turn down the opportunity. Read what last minute said. You are correct re short term gains, but is it good for football and efl clubs specifically. As he refers to, if loans not allowed then there would be less players with each prem team, as they would get less experience, therefore it would be likely more youngsters available to efl clubs. This tests the club to be able to develop these youngsters and if successful a chance to sell for a good fee giving much needed income. Trying to remember last players we sold to top tier. |

I feel the same, yes times have changed but how can it being on good and local talent and how does it show the club in reality ? I wonder how contemporary mangers would deal with a 12 player squad too. We are always starting a new project each season and some wonder why the slow start. Players like Greenslade were scoring for fun in the under 18’s and development squad. Wael did want to take the route of developing our own, young players but we know how that ended up. We had Welsh players, historically and not on loan, maybe building up our own scouting network would be something that would benefit the club instead of always paying out agents fees and scouting fees. The only way any club can hope to turn a profit is by reaching the prem. it is not a sport, not at our level, that will make any owners money. I think Chelsea had something like 40 players on their books, that is just so wrong but we deal the hand we have got |
