I don't trust the Bristol City Evening Post. I too wish we were better informed by our BoD. I just don't see the UWE happening now, its all just a matter of compo. I'm sure if NH came out and said that he would a) be lynched and b) weaken his hand in court. He's rather damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. It's pretty pish poor of Sainsburies and I can't see a reason to blame the board. Even if the contract is watertight sainsburies will get out of it. I would think its a very strong contract or they would be out of it already. My guess is they are waiting it out to force us to pull out. They can afford to wait a lot longer than we can. If this turns out to be true, it makes you wonder about the validity of any contract with them. Is it actually possible to have a binding agreement with Sainsbury's?

I don't understand this opinion that many seem to have that as Sainsbury's are so big, we should just walk away and forget it. Being big and having more money does not make them superior. Didn't anyone watch the film 'Erin Brockovich'?

Nick Higgs cannot tell us as ~
We are mostly customers not shareholders. The shares of those who paid into the shareholder gift scheme are held by the BRSC in trust as I understand it so no obligation to tell us.
Even with shareholders he is not obliged to give every detail of contracts or litigation to shareholders unless there is a likelihood that a provision for a significant loss will need to be put in place that might jeopardise the financial position of the club. This would be reported at AGM, in the accounts or possibly at an EGM of shareholders. As the key shareholders are directors they already know....
A judge would take a poor view and it may prejudice his decision if a party to legal action is seen talking in the media.
At the end of the day this could drag on for ever or until we go into Admin so better off focussing on the football while it lasts!

For me the most interesting thing now is if NH has a plan B. He would have known for a while that Sainsbury's dont want to part with the cash thus giving time to find possible alternatives. It's frustrating not to hear regular updates but if NH did then he could compromise his position in the next legal battle. I think we have entered the final end game to this saga lets hope its not drawn out although I hope the punitive damages writ would take care of that (Correct me if im wrong)

Didn't anyone watch the film 'Erin Brockovich'? Clearly we have not walked away and we are fighting them. They are not superior, but in a war of attrition the side with the biggest stockpile wins, not necessarily the side that deserve to win. They can afford to drag this out for years, we can't.

I think the time to criticize would be if/when this goes tits up and there turns out not to be a planB.

I'd be happy if we got a decent chunk of the money as compensation and built a couple of good stands at the Mem.
However, I suppose that wouldn't provide the modern need for "revenue streams". Gone are the days when football clubs could exist simply on cash through the turnstiles.
Bring back the maximum wage! I blame Jimmy Hill.
(One for the oldies there. Or history students.)

The good old British justice system hey! What a charade! FWIW, I imagine we're looking at compensation and punitive damages now followed by a new deal with a developer to sell the mem for housing. How much that amounts to in total and whether its enough to build a pared-down UWE is anyone's guess.

"Most of you will have read an article in today’s edition of The Post detailing our intention to take Sainsbury’s to the High Court regarding their contract to purchase the Memorial Stadium site.
It is with regret that we have felt it necessary to revert to High Court action to complete our contract with Sainsbury’s but it was felt that this course of action was necessary to allow us to invest in our new stadium at UWE."

Ah well, it's all over then. Get compensation and spruce up the Mem. I would have been sad to see the end of terraces anyway.

Maybe it'll be a case of accepting compensation, and then selling the Mem for housing, and hopefully the compensation + developers money will be enough to build the UWE? It should be easy to sell the Mem for housing as that normally requires a 'lower standard' of planning consent, so if planning consent has already been granted to build a supermarket, it should be pretty straightforward to get planning consent for housing. Any bright sparks on here have any idea as to the value of the Mem if sold for housing?

Sigh....................old news but lets slag of Nick again anyway HE IS DOING HIS BEST TO GET US THE STADIUM!!!!!!! I don't think most supporters have any personal grievance with NH, it's all about communication with supporters - showing them that they are valued and respected.
We were told after the Q & A in July there would be more - nothing !! BSS also kept deflecting this issue with declarations that there would finally be one in December/January ! This is obviously not going to happen.
I really think NH thinks MOST Gasheads are against him - I don't know why as I said from my point of you it was to get the board to stand up and be counted (after all the seasons of failure), justify some of their more important decisions and COMMUNICATE their plans and ideas to supporters with clarity.
Sadly, you are never really sure if silence is for legal reasons or burying head in the sand with regards to most/all developments. UTG !
Personally speaking, everything has pointed to a NO go with Sainsburys for a long time - and only a long-drawn out battle for comp is left. Could we get enough comp to start UWE - at least to get some of it up initially would still be something potentially great. UWE has to be a better option long-term than the ramshackle Mem!?

At least its a start... its only for the Judge to decide if there is a case to answer it could take another 9-12 months to come to court....
