I've genuinely never heard more than the odd pocket of isolated anti-city chanting at the Mem. If you call the blackthorn end the odd pocket of fans, I stand there. Yep, I stand there 90% of the time.

Read a lot on here of "they're obsessed" etc on here yesterday, the irony was unbelievable. I think the poster a few above (gasfest) is spot on. Wake up - our fans are identical to them. We sing about them, talk about them and post regularly about them, anyone who thinks otherwise is cuckoo. Really? Didn't they have a thread running to dozens of pages about us last year? So, hundreds of posts following our soap opera. I don't see the equivalent here. It's especially interesting because we are - ahem - so bad. There they are, multi-millionaires, pushing for the Championship, playing West Ham in the Cup... and they're singing about hating the Gas in the Conference. I agree that it's quite comforting. You never forget your roots, I suppose. Maybe it's to do with our different circumstances, but no, I certainly don't think we are as preoccupied with them as they are with us. Nothing like. Maybe it's just too painful.

I must admit that I'd shut down a little to the other side when we were relegated, I do not discuss the gas even now with city fans at work or at the pub, I cannot take their smugness, but as someone else commented, every dog has it's day, I only hope ours comes soon as we all need it.

I must now go and wash my mouth out with soap.

Fine; I have no major beef with the Teds signing "stand up ...". They hate us and as far as I am concerned its mutual. To be honest I am getting more concerned with the number of people walking around Bristol wearing the colours of teams from outside of Bristol i.e. spending hard earned cash to help maintain the status quo keeping us struggling with a lack of finance. This article www.bristolpost.co.uk/LIVERPOOL-shirts-sold-Bristol-Merseyside/story-25908390-detail/story.htmlsays "more Liverpool shirts are sold in Bristol than in Liverpool". Embarrassing if true. (Sorry the link is BP link with the usual ads.) UTG

We got a mention, I noticed, in Jackie Oakley's (?) interview with Lansdown on the telly. He was listing everything with trainers in Bristol that he's got in his Bristol Sport empire and she said, "Everyone except poor old Bristol Rovers!" Tumbleweed moment.
Made me feel quite proud, actually. Like the Jedi against the Empire.

Well, being Darth Vader, he would have started as a Gashead and then gone over to the Dark Side, if I remember the story correctly.

It's part of rivarly though. We're jealous of their league position, and they're enjoying that we are non-league. Every dog has his day, but both teams will always chant about each other, that's half the fun. I've honestly never seen it a fun...in fact I see it as unhelpful... Bring it back when we are actually competitive against them, but for now let's get behind our boys, not confuse them with chants about a team we don't care about...

Rovers without City is like Batman without the Joker, or vice versa, depending on your side. Yeah, they're miles away from us now, and I no longer cheer when they're losing, because what's the point when we're two/three divisions below. Still, it'd be dead boring without them.

I feel so much better about being poor and small now. It's become morally right and heroic in my head.

So why do our fans chant? what they (City) are doing on any given Saturday is far less important than our overall standings. Lets juxtapose...last season our manager/team/players never worried about the opposition on the pitch on the day. This season the manager/team/players seem more focused on the actual opposition. Who cares about City?

"Wait... that isn't a planet... it's Ashton Gate!"
I wonder if they'll rename the stadium The Deathstar when it's finished.

Is it me or does Darrell Clarke look quite a bit like Harrison Ford?
NH as Joda...
And no prizes for guessing who plays Chewbacca... although he may have to do it standing on someone's shoulders.
Irene as Princess Leia...
It's ok, I'm going out to work now. Bye!.

Who cares about City? Why boo the villain in a pantomime? The pantomime villain is on the stage and thrives from the 'banter'. City are mostly away at Chesterfield/Port Vale/Walsall, whilst we're playing 11 v 11 on the pitch against Lincoln/Dover/Eastleigh. Since few of our players are local and most (whilst they might care about Rovers) only care about Rovers for their wage, I'll ask again, who cares about City?
