Not sure you need lessons, but OK. "We've got our Rovers back" was the fatuous claim when Super Matt was appointed. Just as well he's made us so much fun to watch again, got the best out of the players and has us scoring for fun, otherwise the very real prospect of relegation next season could be on the cards. As for his substitutions, yesterday was a prime example of your point. He brought on (loanee) Vaughan and left Lawrence on the bench. If it's true he didn't want the job, but Rovers hounded him, it beggars belief to imagine his salary. Have a fun summer. đ´ââ ď¸ "We've got our rovers back" because it was no longer governed in part by the head of the Scouse mafia and his cronies Jennings and the colonel. I was overjoyed because it meant we could clap a manager and sing his name with a clear conscience and not supporting a violent, wife beating, misogynistic sewer rat of a person. Also, after half of last season and the first 13 games of this season it was clear that after spending ÂŁ4.5m that 4 wins (1 win in 6) with a squad full of pensioners and crocks that we were going to be more relegation fodder than we were play off contenders. Once the real effect of the mafias spending spree took hold, Ward, Wilson, Hunt, Finley, LMc, playing their regulation 20-25 games, the rest of them that weren't good enough Cox,Grant (did he make 20 games) Crama, Gordon, Javani, Collony (conceding goals for fun in L2 at Morecambe and not making the starting 11 there and couldn't even dislodge Grant from CB đ) Were massively exposed. Add in the sale of Collins and basically you're turning up with 5 players good enough. Are you surprised at MTs frustration? I mean, at least he kept working at it unlike wife beater who came in and because he decided the players were what he liked, gave up and got us relegated. So yes, having a proper person in charge, by proper I mean a decent human being who's ego isn't the size of wife beaters admittedly, is kind of like having a part of Bristol Rovers back where we would have never employed such a repugnant piece of đŠto begin with. Say what you think mate, don't hide behind innuendo and hyperbole. đ

The fans are demanding more because itâs what weâve been promised by the previous majority owner and the previous manager. Anyone with a half functioning brain that has an iota of football knowledge could see the club was nowhere near ready for a tilt at the top 6, yet the previous manager and the previous majority owner kept on banging away about having a go at it and getting the club to the championship. Weâve now got the new majority owner who started out with telling us that The Premier League is the long term goal. That then moved to Championship within 3 years and has now been adjusted in his latest interview to 3-5 years. The reality is that Bristol Rovers are absolutely miles and miles away from being a club who will consistently challenge for a place in The Champ and even further away from being a side that are remotely close to being able to stay there. Yet we have been continually fed bluff about going up etc. Weâd be better off to just accept the fact that itâs going to take a long time until we get to the stage where we can have a go. Yes, I said something similar recently that JB and Wael had raised the fansâ expectations about a challenge for the Championship when in reality when push came to shove we havenât quite pushed on. By that I mean we have a decent spine to the team but again when it came to getting strikers and players with real pace into the team we didnât complete the recruitment. No balance. No real problem with the recruitment last summer save for the fact we didnât get any strikers, like 2020 and weâve paid the price, although not so severe as 2021. And thatâs been the strange part of this season. Compared to much of this century weâve done ok yet there is a real negativity around the place and I think the fanbase expects to be challenging when in reality, as you say we are some way off. But footballâs a funny game and decent recruitment this summer and keep the best of what weâve got annd get strikers and we could challenge. If the owners want to that is. UTG! Do we have a decent spine though Wareham? A kid in goal, no centre halves have stood out as being proper pros on or off the pitch and leading by example midfield lightweight, little pace on the wings and 1 striker who knows where the net is but is 35. Thomas, Sinclair, Martin, Connor Taylor, are the only ones I'd keep from the Scouse invasion. I'd even sell Evan and even then those 5 don't constitute a "spine"

Iâd say we do but the lack of strikers means we are such an unbalanced side. The pressure our keepers and defence have been under this season has been because the game is usually played in our half and we are usually under pressure. No strikers can hold the ball up and bring others into the game. Martin has no support. The spineâŚ.I think Ward has done ok in goal. Of course mistakes have been made but he'll get better. Decent I think. Taylor is certainly a very good Ch who has suffered with the changes in defence continually all season. I think weâre a better team for having him. Wilson, Baggott and Crama and even Wilson are decent though I get your point about injuries. In the centre of midfield Grant Ward, Evans, Conteh and possibly Rossiter are good. Then it stops, nothing else. So yes we have a decent spine but the lack of strikers combined with the poor injury record of too many players has really affected us. And of course no real pace apart from Luke Thomas has made us a poorer side. And we are, as youâve implied, very weak in the FB positions. I hope MT will decide on the system we play and give Taylor a consistent CH a partner or partners. UTG!

We were 13th when Super Matt took over, with a game in hand on 11th place, which had we won it (stop sniggering at the back), we'd have been 11th. We finished 15th. A great improvement by Taylor (out). đ´ââ ď¸ Can I assume you wonât look at the squad next summer and predict 6th place again? Itâs an improvement on last season but itâs not been good enough since the end of January. And this something which realy irks , last season under the unmentionable we were doing ok , not great , up until christmas , this season under Taylor likewise , then fell off a cliff after New year in both seasons, and
spectacularly. Now were we getting a huge number of injuries then , or do we have something against Winter/ Spring , because I cant fathom it. Sure recruitment in Jan was pathetic.
Carry on in both seasons pre christmas form and we'd be looking top half. Taylor's football is not the sort I enjoy watching and dosn't appear to be winning football , but we are stuck with him imo.

He'll be a good player if.... Once we get him fit.. If he can have a good preseason... If he can reverse a career problem of ill discipline.. If he has more experience around him... If if if... add infinite any other excuse you want to put there. We don't need players with a history of persistent injury problems who on paper should be excellent. How long have we done that for? Has it ever worked? Once with Bodin and we're still dining out on that years later. Ian Atkins refused to sign anyone who hadn't played 35 games a year for 3 years. His team and the team that Trolls took over had very little injuries for that whole duration. Wilson has averaged 25 games a year for the whole of his career, Hunt the same, Ward the same, Rossiter the same, Finley the same, I could go on. We need an experienced number 1 who can bring Jed on. I like Ward, but he needs a season at this level as No2. Wilson, Baggott and Crama have had enough auditions this year and they aren't the answer. Ward LMc and Rossiter can't play a season, get rid. Evans, it's clear his heart isn't here and longs for the days of the Scouse mafia, get rid. None of the above are spine players, they are weak, not good enough or not durable enough.

How much is it going to cost to move on Ward, LM etc and sign all these super fit replacements? Even if we've the budget are we really going to attract 20+ new players this summer, when we only managed to sign one in January and he cost us decent money for this level.

In the last 18 league games, we have gained a whopping 23 points. We've scored 18 goals and conceded 37.* Thank goodness we "have our Rovers back" as it would be terrible otherwise. Taylor out and UTFG. đ´ââ ď¸ *Stats provided by the one non drinker in our group of 10, who've been here (Manchester) since yesterday. It's still freezing. Just because Taylor is doing poorly, that doesn't mean it wasn't right to sack Barton. I'm still glad he's gone and once there has been a clear out of the fantastic top 8 squad he assembled then we will be a lot better off. Agree with this. Barton had to go but that doesnât mean Taylor has to stay, Iâd like to know how he plans on winning football matches with 0 shots on target, itâs not physically possible. You can argue itâs not his squad, but he heâs made the squad worse, we want a manager that improves players.

I'm not sure if you really believe what your posting or are just on a wind up. As far as the playing budget is concerned the owners have already made it clear MT will have around a mid table budget as they have no intention of giving him a top 6 challenging budget until the Mem etc has been redeveloped.

Now you are beginning to rant 1981! Where have I mentioned half the players you have? I donât think JB âhoodwinkedâ people on here any more than some other managers. He certainly didnât âhoodwinkâ me! I thought some of the signings were good but have said consistently this season that we stopped at signing strikers or players with pace which in the end certainly stopped us challenging. At the start of the season I predicted us finishing 11th, weâre 15th so not a hundred miles awayâŚmid table. And if you read my post again I did mention the injury situation so am aware of it. Iâve just checked my post and I didnât use the word âifâ once. But football is a game of fine margins and those fine margins may be the striker we didnât get and the letting in the very late goal at Pompey first game. You don't think that we have a strong spine thatâs fine, itâs a forum with lots of opinions and on this you obviously disagree. No problem. UTG!

It's bonkers recruitment and 2 of the 3 mentioned haven't played full seasons in their whole career, so what's the point in taking them? The only thing it guarantees you is a treatment room full of players which you still have to pay for and it does nothing for a settled team.

They seem to take them in the hope they stay fit like Bodin managed to do and then it leads to our promotion?
MT's said a few times we wouldn't be able to sign players like Ward if they had good fitness records.
It'll be interesting to see who MT brings in this summer as it seems he's looking to offer Rossiter a new contract, the way he's been bigging him up since he returned to fitness.

But we have signed serial sicknotes or players with poor appearance records across their careers. Take wheelchair Wilson as an example. 15 years as a pro and he's managed just 4 seasons where he's played more than 30 league games. 4 seasons out of 15!! And at 34/35 what logic says he'll play 30+ games now when his body is battered?! Wheelchair Ward, 10 years as a pro, has played a full season twice. Barton extended his contract by 2 years!! Rossiter has never managed it but some are creaming because he's played 5 games of 50 mins. Jack Hunt 13 years as a pro played 30+ games 5 times. Josh Grant - hasn't managed a full season and had 4 major knee ops. It's insanity the wages we've wasted on sicknotes and I can't believe people sit back and think it's totally acceptable because "no player wants to be injured" or "we might find the next Bodin". At least DC kept him on short contracts for a good while.
