I thought today was magnificent in its way. We didn't play brilliantly and we lacked firepower, but Altrincham were half decent and yet, once again, we battled on for the points, based on our FANTASTIC DEFENCE.
Do we give them enough credit? We seem to spend a great deal of words on our attack and almost grudgingly acknowledge the defence, but I'd like to say that they are pretty damned magnificent. We have let in just 26 goals in 35 matches.
The way Tom Parkes has developed is brilliant. He looked like a mature, experienced old hand today. We were raving about Trotman in the first half of the season, and now we've got McChrystal looking as strong as an ox. I thought Leadbitter was excellent today, getting forward and defending, yet Lockyer has been great there too, though he's only 20. Lee Brown gets forward and has had a really solid season - and his free kicks are another option up front.
If if we go up, these guys may well deserve the lion's share of the credit IMO.

I was having a quick look at the Barnet forum. It was mentioned how the Grimsby wingers were tearing Barnet apart. I was thinking were Grimsby playing better than last week, or are our defender so Dam AWESOME?

Spot on post. I think our defence already deserves the lion's share of the credit. Parkes was magnificent today, he and Leadbitter put in performances which were possibly their best of the season. McChrystal, Brown and Lockyer all very solid once again. Attackers win matches but defenders win championships.

A lot of it is down to the lack of quality of strikers in this division. We'd of been punished far more often last season but that's not to say that as a unit the defence on the whole have done very well.

its not just the defence though thats keeping clean sheets,,we have a team that defends from front to back and works very hard to maintain there shape,,theres no doubt we lack a bit of flair and guile at times but the team are well organised determined and very hard to beat,,

But yes: a well-organised team. Good manager maybe?

As a knock about central defender in the Parkesy mould, I love our defence! I love Trots, I love parkes, and I like macca. Growing to love him now; he's been brilliant recently. Brown and Leads offer a mixture of defence and attack. Neither is, yet, going to set the world alight, but both are good atthis level, and could be better if we 'released' them forward a bit more. This, plus sometimes a Centre back at right back [Lockyer], and 2 x defensive Central Midfielders = a VERY tight defence. Sadly though I still worry about our goal scoring. It's hard to have everything in life, especially if you have 2 defensive minded midfielders.

Our defence has been immense for a while now, since trots got injured and MM came back in the side. Parkes had a shaky start, probably a hangover from the relegation last season but has managed to come stronger with every game, always liked him from when he started out with us, always gives his all and like I said lost his way a little. Nice to have you back Tom and a big well done to the rest of the defensive unit. UTG

Nice bit of defending here. Not Rovers but worth seeing and it would just get lost on the rest of the forum. Worcester City's Shab Khan does a WWE body slam on a Stockport player

Love the reaction of Worcester's no.11! Yes! I hadn't noticed that. Poor bloke just despairs, I think.
