Deserved his MOM last night, Thought he was immense.
Had his critics earlier in the season, but he has proved to be an excellent leader on the pitch and im sure Parkes improved form is down to playing alongside him.
Well done Mark

Completely agree - his quiet leadership of and guidance to the younger players around him is a major factor in how good our defence is.

For me, Parkes was better, but both were excellent and I would have been happy with either getting it.

Parkes for me has been our stand out player in defence this season, and probably last night but the way McChrystal has gone about his business recently has been very good. I thought he would really struggle to get into the side after Trotman came in and did well but he got his place back and now organises the defence, rarely gets beaten by either a big striker or a tricky smaller player and as you say, I think one of the reasons Parkes has been very good is beacuse of McChrystal along side him.

It's about bloody time.
I've always liked MM and I'm glad he is being appreciated now.
Parkes is my player of the season but I would think he would tip his hat to MM in playing a part in his progress this year.

His pass for the penalty was sublime.

Happy to admit I was not MM's biggest fan and I thought he was most culpable for hoofball, especially last season. He's been a revelation since regaining his place though.

I loved Trotman and could hardly believe MM could replace him, especially after a few shaky games when he got his place back, but now I think we have the best CB partnership around, AND the best replacement in the lge who can;t even get on the bench

Solid as a rock since he recovered from his injuries.
I think 99.9% of Gasheads thought he would really struggle to get back into the team once Trotman came in.
Proved his worth and experience. He might not have much pace but his reading of the game gives him an extra two yards.

Just wondering where this leaves Trotman. With Leadbitting hitting form, and Sinclair coming back, Lockyer is more than adequate CB cover.

I would just worry that Lockyer would be the only cover for all 4 defensive positions if we were to get rid of Trotman. 2 injuries or suspensions to the defence which is entirely possible and we would be a little stuffed and would end up moving someone like Sinclair into the back line or playing a youngster.

I agreed with the criticism earlier in the season and I also agree with this thread now, he came back into the team a different player and he was man of the match 100% last night

Have watched the shootout about 10 times now and what I notice every time is that all the players run to Mansell except MM who drops to his knees in sheer relief.
I was one of his biggest critics early in the season but he's won me over big time and his emotion after the win just tops it off.

Him, lee brown, tom parkes and anyone I've forgotten that stayed with us after the relegation to make things right. They have.

He's a bloody good defender for certain games, in particular when man-marking a big opponent.
And we have a manager who isn't afraid to pick the right players for the right match [or for each 'project' as DC says]
