Went in the Blackthorn end last night for the first time in probably 5 years. The threat of rain meant the East terrace was out (good decision that turned out to be!) and the east stand had no seats left together. So anyway, after a quick discussion we ended up in the Blackthorn.
I won't be rushing to go back in there..
The amount of times I heard "Just smash it in the box" and "stop going sideways!" was absolutely mental! The amount of people who stand in that end and clearly have no clue about football is astonishing! Now there are always the odd idiot who thinks that the answer is to smash everything long, but last night these idiots were the very clear majority where I was stood.
Not only was this incredibly frustrating to have to listen to, but more to the point it actually started to have an affect on the way we were playing. You could tell that the players were getting nervous with the fans starting to get frustrated and start to skip passes and look for the direct ball. What use is it to start pumping the ball up to the head of harrison and/or Taylor?! Both are 5 foot something and understandably won't win anything in the air! The best shout was "stronger Harrison!!"! I had to laugh at that one! I mean Harrsion has had the ball smashed up to his head, some 6 foot 3 15 stone center back has come over the top of him and won the ball with ease and then some meat head shouts at Harrison! Like it's his fault!!! Just so very very frustrating and incredibly unhelpful.
It was always going to be tough breaking down ten men behind the ball, but short passing and patient possession was always going to be the key to doing that as it proved with the goal. Smashing the ball long is not and never will be the answer.
Sorry if I have offended any gas heads here, not my intention at all! But I did find that very frustrating last night.

I felt exactly the same. Some bloke behind me went from 'Stop knocking it long!' to 'Stop playing around with it!' in the space of 5 minutes and was sarcastically cheering all game. I stand in the same place every time and have never heard this bloke before so I hope its a one off.

I had a bloke to the right of me who would literally scream "stop messing about with it!!" If we played more than 3 passes in a row! I mean seriously speaking, what sort of plank can genuinely think that possession and short passing is a bad thing?! I just found it both astonishing that we fans that daft and more to the point incredibly frustrating.

You do get some odd shouts from people in there. The view isn't great either but I'd still go in there over any part of the stadium.

I always jest about brains cells being removed each time you go through the turnstile for the Blackthorn end.

Well I have been all around the ground and the only place for me is the Blackthorn, why.. the passion, the characters. Everyone wants to win, but fear gets to some. One of the guys who starts the singing is the most negative there is between songs.

When things are going well it is a great place to be for sure! But if we are under the cosh even slightly it is nearly unbearable!
Then again, maybe I am just getting old as I am sure it wouldn't have bothered me much ten years ago!

i noticed a few certain "fans" that have turned up in the blackthorn the last couple of games who spend the whole game shouting abuse at players and complaining about everything, they even stayed behind to wave wnkr signs at certain players when they were being clapped off at the end of the game.
why even turn up ?

Perhaps they have a subconcious desire to stay home so are trying to create failure again.

I more often than not will stand in the blackthorn but haven't really got a certain spot I gravitate to, but the last two games I've stood in the same place and there has been one bloke just behind me slagging off DC constantly, even when we were 1-0 up last night, shouting 'sort it out Clarke you useless lady garden' unbelievable stuff, me and my mates were watering ourselves at him, it's quite near the back so luckily no one on the pitch would be able to hear him.
I understand that everybody is entitled to moan but constantly doing it for no reason is just madness imo.

I've tried east, west, sitting and standing and I always come back to the Blackthorn. I prefer the view elsewhere but I do feel the nutty and sometimes bad attitudes in the Blackthorn are part of the passion. It's a community, with its good uns and bad uns.
And when we score a vital goal at our end - it's mental!

I gave my free tickets to a couple, he supported Southampton and she is a Gooner. They came against Barnet and were amazed at the amount of passion in the Blackthorn, more than the entire Emirates, she said. When MT scored she was knocked in the face and they were both thrown around, they said it was a wicked night and they loved it.

Even as a relative youngster I now go into the West enclosure as I prefer the view and I'm secretly an old man at heart BUT, the one thing I do miss about the Blackthorn is the wild celebrations for a big big goal. Now I've taken a few things in my time to fill me with ecstasy but nothing beats the celebration in the Blackthorn for goals like Lincoln in the playoffs and City in the JPT, truly exhilarating!
