Offering him a new contract now would be an unwanted distraction. So many times over the years managers have been given new contracts only to then go on a bad run. Wait until the end of the season.

You get your sodding exam results once they've been marked at the end. So far so good, but let's see how the season ends to get a true measure of our man. We all know how quickly some managers lose the plot, so lets keep everyone on their bloody toes shall we. If we lose the next four games half of our fanbase would be calling for his bleedin head, after a few wins in a row half are calling for a new contract. Let's act a little more thoughtfully, carefully and when the full results are in. We need to know what he's like underachieving, mid-table and as we currently are - table topping. Let's see how he handles all scenarios before we make rash judgements like your average fickle fan. I'd like to think we're a little bloody better than that. As you were Darrell, keep up the good work young man, the rewards will follow - for all of us. If we lost the next 4 games we would still be in the playoffs, a feat I thought no manager could achieve under Higgs, which is why I'd still want him given a new contract.

How about a Director of Football assisting him climb through the leagues.
It worked the last time we got promotion.

Why would DC accept a contract offer now, with a promotion on his CV surely he could demand a better offer, plus we could offer him more as well.
Also the Sainsbury's court case could well dictate what we can offer anybody next season?

i said earlier in the season about giving dc a new deal but not this late on,,,also lots of the players are on 1 year deals so it wouldnt look right if dc had security but not most of the team. its best to sort such things out after the season imo

I agree recent managers are not solely to blame for our last 4 /5 years. I say for last season : The Board (50%), Ward (30 -40 %) and the players (10 -20 %) - always liked Maths

Any organisation lives or dies as a team. Last season we were sodding awful AS A CLUB, this season we are doing much better AS A CLUB.
As usual most people are reluctant to hand out praise to the Chairman and board who have overseen this years sodding success. We can bloody thank others you know - its not against the rules, even though it seems against many peoples sodding principles.
Some would have you believe we are top DESPITE of Mr Higgs and the board, or BECAUSE of Darrell Clarke. Well it aint down to one individual its down to all sorts of things, many of which happen behind the scenes and the people concerned don't necessarily want to shout out "Look what i did". I suspect a few players have doubts over how Darrell does things but they don't crow on about how they're top despite of the manager.
Team work, thats the key, everyone pulling their weight and admitting mistakes and learning from them. This sodding club has a long way to go to move on from the recent failures, but steadily we are moving in the right direction and that is down to everyone making a small bloody difference. So let's all keep learning, criticise by all means when things go wrong , but bloody hand out the praise in small pieces when deserved.
A bit more bloody unity and strength as a club is essential if we're gonna get back where we all think we belong.
Well done yesterday lads, Darrell, Directors and Supporters. You all played your part.

Perhaps the fact we're playing part timers helps? Until we're back in Div 2 nobody really knows if we've turned the corner, or our wage budget just makes us so much stronger than the opposition.

You all played your part. The rumour I heard after the disasterous start was that DC was close to the sack. The only person supporting him was Nick Higgs. If true, then to praise DC is to praise NH too. I'm sure those in the know will correct me if I'm wrong.

Well said that man! We need to see what he is made of when the team is struggling, and if he can turn things around against other full time professionals. As long as Gary Johnson is out of work, there will be pressure.

As long as Gary Johnson is out of work, there will be pressure. I am not sure why you think that. The teams that win this league almost invariably do very well in Div2.
Gary Johnson was being muted initially because it was felt that DC lacked experience but I am not sure what he has to do to prove that he is more than capable of doing a good job.
I suspect that when Olli gets the boot we will be touting him as a replacement

I think DC will be asked to carry on, whether we get promoted or not. But come this Nov or Dec, an evaluation will take place. Every manager in Lg 1 and 2 will be feeling the same heat.

I see no reason why DC can't be our manager for the foreseeable future. He has made some shrewd signings and has a very good rapport with the supporters. He obviously isn't the finished article but I would much rather have a promising manager on his way up, than a bigger name on his way down (Mcghee, Ward etc)

I wonder if Johnson and Holloway are now on the way down ?

I don't get the love in with GJ he failed at Northampton now again at Yeovil, who's to say he wouldn't fail again here. If DC did ever leave I'd sooner we employ somebody like Edinburgh (when he was at Newport) than another journeyman manager.
Let's hope DC gets us promoted and as a decent season in Div 2 given our past failures at recruiting decent managers.

His only real failure was at Northampton. He wasn't happy at the start of this season with Yeovil so it is clear to me that he hasn't been supported as much as he'd of liked.
