Nice piece.
I'm still not sure he did the right thing either, but like you I too feel more connected to the players and manager than at any other time watching the Gas.

"On this occasion had Darrell got it wrong, or had he got it right?"
Or maybe it's irrelevant. If you really can't tell whether it's a good thing or a bad thing maybe it might be neither (shock!).
No doubt after the Grim match people will be queuing up to tell us it was all about the Vic sing song (especially if we lose). But honestly, that sort of magical thinking is all over the place, and especially all over the superstition prone footballing world. And it's all over our god-awful, steeped-in-the-woo media who can never resist filling up their word count with half-thought-out mumbo-jumbo. And unfortunately, buckrippers, although I usually like your stuff, that's just added to the pile.
Having said that, I realise that was just a hook to hang your article on, which is really about DC's media/fan savvy, which imo were all good points, well made.

Shock Horror young manager does something that might not be right..... but might actually be right.....
Listen, he's always so calm and measured in his interviws you know. This is probably an outburst from all season. He's no idiot - he would have seen and heard of the early season comments about him not being good enough blah blah blah...
And perhaps hes sees us getting to the playoffs as a sucess.....

Not arsed about how '82ers and the Grimsby fans see DC. It was a moment we enjoyed, that's all that matters.

Got a lot of time for him. He is a young manager and has made some mistakes but he has given us our Rovers back. We now have a team that will die for the shirt. We are going forward again . If a few franchise teds are upset boohoo. Long may he reign. Gasheads have got a smile back on our faces and long may it last.

Some blokes would not even go into the Vic, let alone stand up and be counted. DC has gone right up in my estimation, he knows when to get his game head on and also kinows when to enjoy himself, what it also says to me is that Rovers means alot to him, just like it does to us Supporters. Top Bloke !

Always thought he was good at talking the talk, we now know he can walk the walk. And a great bloke to boot. All doubts extinguished!

I think he did the right thing, it's probably been brewing all season, took a lot to go into a fans pub, not because its the vic but any pub full of fans, as rovers fans aint afraid to tell it like it is , It just proves the guys human not many managers would walk from the ground to a pub, and have a sing song, To me as i've said since the mansfield game, DC will come good
