Have just read on FB, that local football club Hallen FC are to fold on 31st May as they are being evicted from Moorhouse Lane, Hallen by Almondsbury Parish Council. This effects not only Hallen FC but the local community in general and Bristol Rovers as our Academy team play thier games their and use it for training. Despite having almost £2m in the bank, Almonsdbury Parish Council say they can no longer afford the upkeep of this facility, which will now kill the village as a whole. This also means that the Bristol Rovers Academy team need to find somewhere else to play and train. There may be people on here who have either played for or played against Hallen FC at Moorhouse Lane. So if you have a opinion on this and want to vent your anger, then please drop a line to Almonsdbury Parish coucil expressing your disgust of this decision. UTG

Britain’s Oldest Football Groundsman Is Offering Life Savings To Save Beloved Club BY : ALEX BENTLEY | 26 MAY 2015 | 635 Shares

I hate the word ‘legend’ usually, it’s so flippantly overused. But 76 year old Terry Henderson fully deserves the title.
Despite having to walk with sticks, he spends 12 hours a week, every week, looking after the pitch at Hallen FC, and has done for 40 years.
He drives a tractor cutting the grass, and even lives in a mobile home next to the ground, which is just outside Bristol.

The club is ten years younger than Terry, but may be forced into folding, as the council have majorly hiked up their annual rent, from £12,000 to £20,000.
Terry sadly lost his wife Eileen last year, and said that Hallen FC is his other love, and he couldn’t bare to lose that as well. Therefore, he has offered his life savings to help pay the £20,000 rent needed to keep the club going.
Terry said:
My wife was the love of my life, and now I could be losing yet another love of my life.
I have many fond memories here at the club and would be devastated if it were to fold. It really means the world to me.This is an extremely generous offer and we are very grateful.
However, we cannot accept this donation as we need to be sustainable and think about the future of the club, not just in a year’s time.
Terry has been a fantastic supporter and we’re very grateful. We know how much this club means to him.
As it stands, the club will be folding on May 31st, which is awful. Football at any level should be supported, not ran into the ground through over-expensive rent. The club is run entirely by volunteers, and it winds me up when council’s do things like this. It seems to be happening quite often now. What’s the betting that the ground is sold to property developers?
Fair play, Terry. Top bloke.
If you want to help save Hallen FC, then sign this petition.

Surely as we use it we could help them for this year at least? Would also forge good strong links with community. Come on BRFC we must be able to assist

It's pretty obvious to me that this is a council decision based on the fact that somewhere behind the scenes they have a developer lined-up to build on the land.
At the moment it will cost the council 8,000 a year (20k - 12k rent) to provide a facility that serves hundreds of people. So they will close it, and lose the 12k rent ! Keep it open to serve the community, and it will cost 8k. Close it, thereby depriving the community of a service, and it will cost the council 12k !
It's pretty obvious what is going on isn't it !
PS - When I played in the County League many moonhowls ago, this was usually the best pitch in the league.

I signed this petition last week, as a young lad playing for Pilning Hallen were our local rivals. I doubt Rovers have the spare cash to stump up £20k, what is required is a local sporting philanthropist with an interest in developing the community. Isn't there one residing on the Channel Islands? Or is it more about showing off, aka Harry Enfields character "whop your wad". Answers on a postcard

You'd have thought this would have been a golden opportunity to get his ego massaged??? I have to say, thinking about it now, I am flabbergasted he hasn't offered to save them if I'm honest.

Im more shocked we havent. we use the bloody ground. Ye, we have got loads of money floating about at the moment. Sack the board. According to a statement issued by the Council we wouldn't/couldn't commit to being there this season. That may be due to the uncertainty around the court case. Interesting that we aren't making commitments to people that we can't meet and then leaving them out of pocket which is fair enough. Unlike a certain other team in 1982....
