There's only so many experienced old heads you need in the place. LM is a position for attack. We've got macca, mildy, manse, to play that role. Just wait and see I guess. He's clearly a popular guy on here judging by 4/5 of you. Out of interest then, what areas of our side need improvement? Well for one, I would star looking at the right hand side instead of the left...

What are the options on the left apart from Brown and Monky?

What are the options on the left apart from Brown and Monky? Would you be happy to see Leadbitter, Lockyer, Sinclair, Ellis or Taylor starting on the right? I would say we need a right sided winger. We have Monkey, Gosling and Balanta who can play on the left, not amazing but ok. I would bring in 2 new wingers personally (one for each side) as Monkey will struggle to get through 40+ games. Personally I think we should have an attacking winger like Dawson/LDV on one side and a more steady cleaver player, like Monkey/Gosling on the other side, two out and out wingers will prove costly defensively.

Given Gosling likes to cut back and cross with his left peg why doesn't he actually play on the left wing occasionally, then he wouldn't need to cut back? Any idea where he plays for Gibraltar?

Wow! Amazed that people can't see what he brings to the team! What have you been watching? A sh1t standard of football. What about you? Former league players being made to look average by part timers. A standard that is as good (or bad!) as the bottom 12 of L2! The bloke strolled thro the Conference winning plenty of headers, scoring plenty of goals, linked up well with his team mates & generally kept things simple. I don't see a lot changing too much next season! Has plenty more to offer.

FGR finished in the playoffs and weren't much better.

The Forest Green side that we played in the play-offs would get spanked in League 2.

Really hope Monkhouse stays. Massively undervalued IMO.
Has a fantastic understanding with Brown down the left and chipped in with more than his fair share of goals too.
I'd like the option of a flying winger on the bench but so long as we have someone like Dawson / Della Verde down the right I'd stick with Monkhouse on the left.

He's not as tricky as Dawson, he's not as quick as Leadbitter, he's not as combative as Sinclair, but I'm with those who have recognised Andy Mankhouse's contribution throughout the season. In addition to the assists from the inside left position, his interplay with Brown led to a number of goals and numerous chances throughout the season. His heading ability is also a major plus, which has led to the majority of his goals. Hence, I hope he signs a new contract.
In terms of cover, the obvious candidate from our current squad is Angelo Balanta. We've tended not to play him on the left, mostly because we've kept Monkhouse on the pitch when Balanta comes on.
I'd also agree with the idea mentioned above of swapping wide men during the game ot give a full back something different to think about - we haven't done enough of this IMO.

Ok so most of us has watched sky sports on a Saturday, how many have heard Jeff Stelling say how monkhouse, when at hartlepool, popping up with a goal, late in the game, on many occasions. Ok so that would be 2 seasons ago but his FL experience will count towards our team next season. I agree, pacy winger on one side, monkey on the other.

I can see it now, head in hands as Monky scores a late equaliser against them, "goal" comes from the studio "we will head off to............................, then as we return "i don't believe it Bristol Rovers have grabbed a late winner" :-)

I think we've missed the biggest positive of that Instagram exchange. Ellis seems genuinely motivated to stay with us, which had been a little uncertain, to say the least! Brilliant news! first thing i saw as well, TBH when i saw EH on the page i thought oh god what now ,but when i read it my first thoughts were Wow , he's already training himself , I was one of his early detractors ,will admit i was wrong about ellis and if i saw him shake his hand and say thanks kid. The other thing i like in these exchanges is the togetherness of the players, the only way is UP

The left hand side was where most of the attacking action came from last season, and at wembley

I sort of get what you're saying but would you say a side that plays well isn't a good side?
