Ellis "Hurry and sign please". I reckon that's a good indication that a contract is on the table. Good news in my opinion.

Despite some awful abuse at times from certain 'fans', I really rate Monkhouse & hope we have him next season.

The only downside is I think my girlfriend fancies him a bit.

Not fussed if I'm honest. Games passed him by too often but he got some goals. Could strengthen that side with a better defensive MF to allow LB to overlap without the risk.

Allowed Brown to get forward and cause some havoc last season. Seems like a good professional to have around too. I'd happily have him here next season.

I hope he stays. He scores goals and creates goals, and had a great understanding with Brown down the left. Just because he isn't pacey with step overs galore doesn't make him a bad player. Too many people think a winger has to be all pace and skills.

^I'd be interested in his assist stats, since you mentioned it. I don't see him create much at all tbh.
I know these type of threads tend to go all polarized, but that needn't happen. I just think he is rubbish.

I dont know the stats but a lot of our goals come from our left. If not a direct assist he almost always plays Brown in for 99% of his crosses. If we can genuinely get better then so be it but I'd be more than happy to see monkey in the starting 11 on day one.

A lot from the left. 99% of Browners crosses.
I haven't seen this. I have seen a lanky left midfielder who cannot beat his man, cannot catch his man, and cannot tackle. Got away with it against window cleaners but will have to wise up next season if he doesn't want to get found out.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then. That's the great thing about football I suppose. I'd have him over Gosling or Balanta any day though.

I just think he is rubbish. Disagree... but football is all about opinions isn't it? Monky is much more than a slow left winger. Scored more with his head than most wide men /midfielders, is adaptable enough to fit into several roles across the midfield and upfront, is able to time a pass and find the target, can put in a quality cross. You may not see it but there was plenty of evidence of it. When I think of some of the dross we've had to suffer in recent years in midfield in L2 and even L1 (Hyde Quinn Savage Carlisle Toner Reece Blizzard Hunt) Monky compares very favourably with them!

Got away with it against window cleaners but will have to wise up next season if he doesn't want to get found out. The combination of Monky and Brown was a key feature of our season, both in defence and going forward. The two were very solid. What impressed me was that although opposition defences knew exactly what to expect from us down the left, they still couldn't cope with it. To ignore the key role Monky played in this and give all the credit to Brown is plain wrong, in my opinion.

I think we've missed the biggest positive of that Instagram exchange.
Ellis seems genuinely motivated to stay with us, which had been a little uncertain, to say the least! Brilliant news!

Some good arguments here. I predict he will be a weak link if in the side next season. He had a good year this time around if you look at our results and his returns. He won't get away with it next season. Any RM would be happy lining up against him. Alefe Santos dream come true!

I know a lot of people don't think Monkhouse contributes a lot but I think he does an awful lot that goes unnoticed.
Yes he is slow and doesn't possess boat loads of skill, but that isn't his game. He keeps the ball, links up well with Brown and, unlike most wide men, scores a large number of goals. I'm sure his experience was invaluable around the dressing room last season as well, which I think Harrison's comment proves.
I am not convinced he'll stay because his family leave up north still, but I would be pleased if he is.

Monky can spot an intelligent pass as well.
