must say im chuffed so many of last seasons squad are staying,,,hope balanta and puddy agree terms asap, at 1st i thought maybe release puddy balanta gosling and maybe more, trouble is we would risk losing that great team ethic and spirit that served us so well last season. as long as clarke from woking, jermaine easter and our probably 3 new players improve the squad i can see us having a good season, what do others think?

As long as we are never in any danger of going down, that'll be good enough for me and I think we'll be fine. In DC we trust.

We are lacking in midfield now that Monky has gone and if Lines doesnt sign then i think we could have a problem. It will be interesting to see how our strike force does against better defenders but i suspect we may need to sign someone there if Easter is not fit for next season

I know that DC said that he wanted another 4 players in after we signed Clarke but do we think that will now have increased because of Monky leaving or did he already know that and had taken it into account, I think we still need another 4 maybe 5 to be brought in, cover for Browner at LB, Linesy, left winger and cover for both wings as well, possibly even another CM.

Lockyer and new Clarke can both play left back if needed and we may still use Greenslade this season who is a left back so I don't think Brown cover will come in, I'd still like us to sign another out and out centre back, 2/3 wingers and Lines, then I'm sure we'll see loans through the season

So if I understand it right, 1973 is pleased we are keeping a non league team to compete in the league. Yeah, right.
Or do we think DC only knows non league players and needs help with regard to recruitment? I hope his knowledge extends to league players because our squad is not strong enough to get in the top seven which has to be the target.

Obviously we want to strengthen, but we were the strongest team in the conference for the second half of last season, so we shouldn't be miles off L2 standard IMO. My main concern is that Lines signs. Presumably SS will be back to his best and boosting that midfield. I look forward to seeing him at this higher level. I'm sure he'll be good.

That little extra bit of quality is what will determine our season.CL good example and Ellis came really good late on and his goal at Wembley was so vital. We have several solid types but that little bit of class is what will help us survive and do well.No doubt loans will help the cause. Lots of ordinary teams we encountered in the Conference. We won't encounter so much mundane stuff this season so that little extra bit of Vroom Vroom is needed.DC never managed at league level but think he'll cope.True Gashead now.

I think we are holding off a bit until the court case is settled. I hope not but would make sense.

I would take 11 hungry "non league" players who want to wear the shirt over 11 "football league" players who don't care less about the club.
As for our 'target', avoiding relegation will do - need to walk before we can run and all that. Will look forward to be proven wrong, but have learnt a lot over the last few seasons!

It is of course still yet to be seen whether Greenslade will be used but I'd like to think he will be, I agree in regards to Leads and Lockyer, Leads is the RB so he should always make the team ahead of Lockyer in that position Imo, and I would like to finally see Lockyer claim his own position. I'm very much looking forward to see who we bring in out wide

I hope his knowledge extends to league players because our squad is not strong enough to get in the top seven. How do you know this ?? Please do give us all some examples of your superior inside knowledge.

Team ethic and spirit is great when you have the quality to match it, we need at least another 5 quality players to add to the squad to compete next season.

Last season DC signed Monkhouse, Mansell, Trotman, Balanta, Easter and Lines, all from league clubs. He also signed plenty of loan players from league clubs and I'd be amazed if we didn't see some more league players coming in in the coming weeks. Have a bit of patience!

Teams coming up normally do well. Whether that is winning mentality or the standard is similar I'm not sure. If I'm honest, I reckon we are in a bad place to compete. But, teams coming up normally do well......
We played against some really really bad teams last year and didn't look convincing. The next few weeks will help shape it but again I won't get excited or disappointed by pre season.

The next few weeks will help shape it but again I won't get excited or disappointed by pre season. You say about not looking convincing, but after January I thought we did very well and comfortably beat a lot of teams. Admittedly March wasn't our most emphatic month result-wise but other than that we thoroughly deserved to win every single game that we did and that's all you can do, so I'm not sure that particular point counts for a lot. Yes it would have been nice if we scored another goal or two per game, however I guarantee every single other team in the country would say the same thing. We do need to make improvements if we want to be a proper force next season, though, without a doubt. 2-3 wide players, a central midfielder and then one other in whatever area DC feels we most need more quality. Having said that, I don't think we're in a 'bad place to compete' even if we aren't able to bring in our first choice signings.
