Whilst I can understand a short period contract for a player like Trotman who has been injured and needs to prove his fitness I look upon a short period contract offered to Balanta as ridiculous because DC has seen him in training everyday and picked him in his squad for most of the time he was with us. IMO DC should either have offered him a year contract or not offered him a contract at all. Whilst I have faith in DC that he can make the signings necessary I am less convinced that the Board will back him with the necessary funds if the Court case goes against us. At the present time we have a mid to bottom League 2 squad and without a reasonable budget it will be another relegation fight. If DC is given sufficient funds he is more than capable of getting a promotion chasing side.

Nothing wrong with that. What would have happened if we offered him a year and he had as a disappointing season as last season?

maybe DC wanted to see him after getting a decent pre season under his belt to prove his fitness. its not like he set the world on fire last year and if he really wanted to be here he would of took the offer.

Some players (only) respond to such carrots. Otherwise, comfort sets in and they go "awol". DC is one cute operator.

Maybe we just offered him a ST contract so he could use it to his advantage when negotiating with his new club?

Bewildered by your call for a longer contract Steve.
Balanta has struggled with fitness since he joined us. FFS the man has moobs for crying out loud!
DC sees him day in, day out; as you say. So if he thinks a short-term contract is what he's worth, then who are we to disagree?
FWIW, I am fully behind DCs decision. I'd have only offered him 6 months. Then, if in those 6-months he proves to be an asset (something he hasn't come close to doing yet), I'd give him an extension. But, if he does then fail to prove to be an asset, at least we don't have someone who likely commands a fairly hefty wage, who is ridiculous out of shape, on a stupidly long contract - something this club has been guilty of doing over and over again prior to DC taking the reigns.

Surprised by this from you steve, as I feel you are probably the most balanced in your summing up of games, Angelo seemed unfit and at times disinterested to me, and if had a long contract offer what shape would he rock up like for pre season?

My feeling on this is that if he was so unfit and/or so disinterested then why was he in DC's squad for all of the last 20 games? I may be proved wrong but I have a feeling this is one we may regret. My main concern at the moment is whether any potential signings are being held until after the Court case result. If this is the case then I really do feel worried for next season if the case doesnt go at least far enough our way to clear/lessen the debt.

Balanta didn't look too interested at the open training session unlike other players who really caught the eye that day.

He was in the squad because we didn't have money to be splashing about. He still wasn't making the first 11 and if he can't do that in the conf then what chance does he have in tge league?! I doubt he was on cheap wages either. I expect the short term deal was because DC still isn't fully sold on him. Offerig him a 1 year deal on the same wages would have been a big waste of our budget. Right call DC. All about VFM.
