It looks like our club may have dropped the NUS discount on tickets.
Yes there is a new 16-21 category, and I presume the club will trot out the old idea that that will cover students, but not all students are under 21. In fact quite a lot aren't now, especially with years out, 4 & 5 yr courses, PGCEs, post-grad legal courses, lots more people doing masters degrees & Ph.D.'s because almost half the population have a first degree, older returners to education, older part-timers, etc. These people are very price sensitive and don't often have much income / have previous student debts.
I suspected it might happen after a few comments on here last season about how some students felt the club wasn't that interested and pushed them into buying an NUS card as the club would only accept NUS cards rather than University ID cards. Plus no ST option was ever offered [although that was never a total surprise as sometimes the club do special marketing for that in September when the new term is starting].
None of the tickets on sale so far are offering NUS discount, so unless the club pull something out the bag [e.g. a 5 / 1O book of tickets, or promote something in September] it looks like we've given up on another gap in the market.
Poor timing IMO when UWE could either be going ahead soon, or sadly having to be dropped. Whatever happens to the UWE Stadium, sidelining slightly older students in a student City like Bristol is a disaster. Cue knee jerk reactions telling all slightly older students, even gasheads, to feck off. but I really feel it is a discount worth giving. especially for a club in our area.
Anyone who DECIDES to come to the Mem [or an away match; lots of other clubs give a clear and simple NUS discount] instead of going somewhere else is a Gashead in my eyes. Pure and simple. Even if they only come to 1, 5 or 1O matches a season. There is a lot of competition out there for people's leisure time. We can't assume a 22 year old student will pay £16-25 to come and watch Lge 2 football in a run-down stadium.
