Alright chaps, congratulations on getting back into the FL, just got a quick question for you.
As we all know we meet on the first day of the season, and also the Balloon Fiesta is the same day, are the roads a lot worse than normal and how much extra time do you think is needed to get away from the ground afterwards, if any?

If you go via the A38, you won't have to deal with Balloon Fiesta traffic. Probably be pretty normal.

What Antonio said really. It's totally the other side of town. P.S. Sorry for JJOT.

The balloon fiesta won't affect if you come in on M5/A38, as its further south than us. Worth a look though if you come for a few days.

Cheers fellas. Sounds good. Was planning on seeing the Saturday evening lift off from a park nearby then driving home. Not even gonna bother trying to get near Ashton Court!

I don't think I've seen a lift off, and I go every year! Not sure where to park up either?..... Maybe Tog Hill.

Main problem is getting to the ground as it's also a busy weekend for holiday traffic on the M5/M4, so leave plenty of time to get to the ground.

What everyone else said on traffic, the balloon fiesta won't affect anyone coming to the game unless they are travelling from south of the river. Holiday traffic may clog the M5 so you may be better coming down the M40/M4/M32 off at Hambrook.
Stating the obvious, the wind direction will affect the best place to view the balloons. If there is a gentle wind in a northerly direction, I'd find a high vantage point and wait for them to come to you. If the weather is good it is well worth it.

Why do so many people sit on the M5 trying to go on holiday? It baffles me! Do people seriously think it a good idea to set off at 1700 on a Friday or 0800 on Saturday morning trying to get to Devon/Cornwall? It's the same scenario every time.

Cheers fellas, was gonna aim for Perretts Park? Apparently you can see right into Ashton Court.
Will probably leave a couple hours extra on the way down to have a mooch around Bristol, although I'm the shandy man for the first game!

Maybe that is part of the experience for them! I totally agree though it baffles me too!

It's free apart from car parking. Perrets park...that's Totterdown across town I think(confirmation?) Nice and high but past temple meads etc up A37.... Get yourself to Ashton court before the game! If you like the show you might choose to avoid watching your team get beat.

It's the same scenario every time. see it so often in the summer that people heading south west actually think it's a good idea to leave the motorway at cribbs and think that bristol will be a short cut on a friday afternoon..... good luck to that while you're stuck on falcondale road for 5 hours....

A. also traffic congestion round there is of epic proportions at this event ?

What sort of time are you talking about, I live just over a mile away from Trashton gate and wouldn't consider driving to the event for "peak" occupancies other than morning ascents. Another good spot for mass ascents is on the downs near the water tower, although parking up there can get busy.

I go after the Rovers match so park up about 7 which is probably as busy as it gets as you have the Saturday night glow.
