What pubs would people call Rovers pubs? Living in Kingswood, there are obviously Rovers supporters in most pubs. There are a few pubs which people would call city pubs too. The Devonshire arms in Torquay was excellent but that's in Torquay! We have the Royal Archer here, headed up by a well known Gashead and there are flags and Rovers colours on show. The flowerpot, traditionally a blue boozer. Any other postcodes that have gas orientatated boozers??

The funny thing is....if this type of thread appeared on otib, they'd be claiming all territories!
So no pubs then. Hmm. That's sh**.

I thought the archer was being turned into flats 79. Could say the vic but is it just on match days that gas heads frequent it? Always looks dead in the week. The Globe in Frampton was ran by Graham Day briefly but is more of a family pub now.

The Archer is going ok. The Anchor is next to be lost though, if that's where you mean?
There will be plenty of bacon butties and minibus trips from the Archer this season.

Ah I didn't realise that fair play to him. No I meant the archer, just one of those rumours from when it was closed I expect. I wonder if the lack of true rovers pubs is due to our nomadic existence. I remember the pubs from Our trumpton days, full moon and fleece, but I wonder what the main pub was from the Eastville era? Queens head or that hungry horse perhaps.

I remember the pubs from Our trumpton days, full moon and fleece, but I wonder what the main pub was from the Eastville era? Queens head or that hungry horse perhaps. The White Swan was the main pub at Eastville in the days of the Tote End. Obviously other pubs were used as well but not to the same extent, e.g. the SWART (South Wales Railway Tavern), The Black Swan, The Sugar Loaf, The Greenbank, Merchants' Arms. The Old Fox.
In our latter years at Eastville, the White Swan shut and became the Unigate Dairies Club or something like that, so the other pubs got a share-out of those who had regularly used it. The Greenbank became a "Rovers" pub on Saturday match days and was frequented by many Tote Enders for a regular card school. Paul Gerrish, the landlord was a staunch shed, indeed his brother had once played for t'other mob, but he was genuinely proud of what he termed his Rovers fans, as we drank by the gallon yet never once caused him any aggro. He had some idiots in there once who were soon chucked out and he asked why they could not be like "you lot", i.e. his regular Rovers fans. The Greenbank did not open until later on evenings though, so there was a further share-out of fans for evening games. I belonged to the group who chose the Sugar Loaf for that purpose.
I guess that the Black Swan picked up trade after the White Swan closed, so that may be why John Kayes used it for a couple of his Tote End reunions, but I never classed it as a Rovers pub.

Didn't Rovers use either the Black or Whire Swan as its offices back in The clubs early days? Or did I imagine that?

why would any landlord show an allegiance to a football club when it;
a; halves your potential business income
b; doubles the chance of your gaff being turned over

Pubs rarely get turned over mate! Some of the footy pubs are very interesting I think. Arsenal have one in particular which is brilliant pre match.(can't remember the name) There is a good one in Newport, by the River. The 3 lions is an interesting place, bit like a shrine to the teds. I would like to visit that little Rangers bar one day, near Celtic park. Looks cool.

Royal Oak Gloucester rd - used to be a big Rovers pub back in the day 80'sand then also again late 90's but then known as the Cabot. Duke of York ( Glos arms) always a rovers pub and became Rovers main pub from 96 onwards until name change then main pub became The Cabot now the lads use the Victoria which is run by a sh1thead . Lockleaze pubs used to be Gas Gainsborough , golden bottle and the felly Kingswood pubs Essex arms, royal archer , Kings head , Prince Albert , Lord Rodney and the flowerpot Also Lamb at banjo island always big rovers pub. Anchor hotel was always a staunch Gas pub as well and of course the Bulldog . Shame that apart from match days the only pubs above that are still blue and still standing are the Bulldog, the Royal archer , the flowerpot and perhaps the Essex

Royal Oak in Corsham High St.
He enters the 1883 Sponsorship Club every year and you might have been a 'Royal Oak' gas flag at matches.
if you are ever in or near Corsham pop in. Corsham is surprisingly beautiful and full of history. And if the missus needs persuading, tell her they filmed some of Poldark here, barely 1OO yards from the Oak, by the Post Office.
Aidan Turner often hangs around and will get his shirt off for a bag of pork scratchings.

Noticed the Red Post in Peasedown St John, between Radstock and Bath, has a Rovers flag flying outside.
