Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke has set his players the target of a top-seven finish and will not settle for a season of consolidation.
Clarke, 37, guided Rovers back into the Football League at the first attempt last term when they finished second behind Barnet in the Conference.
And he has challenged his players to maintain their momentum.
"We want to build on the success of last season and have a right good go in League Two this year," he said.
"I don't want to hide behind the fact we've got promoted, so let's consolidate.
"I want my players to show they can perform in the top seven of League Two and we'll see how we go."
Clarke signed a new 12-month rolling contract with the club on Wednesday and also has longer-term ambitions for the club beyond the season ahead.
Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, he continued: "I believe I can get this club into the top half of League One and this is my goal and aim, so I am looking forward to the new challenge.
"Stuart Sinclair and Jermaine Easter have had important minutes under their belt and the lads have come back fit and sharp, and having got promotion they want to continue that momentum."
Clarke, who still wants to add a right winger to his squad, said negotiations over his own contract had not been a distraction in his preparation for the new season.
"It's nice to get it sorted, to be honest it was never any really panic, I have no interest in leaving," he added

I'm glad we're still in the market for a right winger, very light on the wings at the moment

I home record has been good for a few years now. If we actually have a go away from home unlike the JW era then there's no reason we shouldn't challenge.

Given our excess central midfielders (and Gosling has impressed in the middle recently) and pacey strikers, I do wonder if.... ----------Easter----------- Harrison-------------Taylor ----------Lines------------ ----Sinclair----Mansell----- would be worth a try. Switch around as appropriate to include the likes of Montano, who's pace would also be very useful on those wing roles. Bodin would also be useful there, given he also plays as a forward.

I wish the Board would stop using him to deflect from bad news. Really?! The club's press day has always been a Thursday, regardless of how much bad news there is around the club. Inevitably the journos are going to ask DC his expectations for the season and he's given them! I'm not happy with how the club is doing off the pitch, I don't think many are. But one thing I am proud of at BRFC is the playing side, for once in the last 7/8 years!! Can't we be proud of that without having the BoD shoved down our throats at every opportunity? If we win games next season, will those results be deflection devices too? The idea that DC is being used as a deflection device by the BoD is tin foil hat stuff, really is.

Top 7 it is then. If that's what the man said, that's what we shall do.
Top 5 by xmas, delivered perfectly when we were looking in real danger.

I'm pretty sure he was joking as others have been saying it. Baggins has been defending them!

I'm not a fan of that formation personally, I like 442 with wingers and I don't buy into this sudden theory that 2 pacey wingers doesn't work, I don't get where that has come from, but who ever DC puts on the pitch and whatever formation they play in I'll be there moaning my little heart out haha

He always jumps up and says, "someone's at the door, I'll get it!"
