Another short assed keeper. Thats just what we need. Darryl James Flahavan [fla-hay-van] (born 28 November 1978) is an English footballer who plays as a goalkeeper and is currently unattached following four years with Championship side A.F.C. Bournemouth. He has spent most of his career in The Football League, winning the PFA League One player of the year and was named in the League One Team of the Year in 2005–06; he was also named Southend United supporters' player of the year in 2002–03 and Players' Player of the year in 2003–04 and again in 2005–06. In 2007, Flahavan was named in the top 50 players outside of the Premier League according to Four Four Two magazine. He's won a bit more than our other short keeper.

Have always rated him over the years and think he would be a great signing. Still the experts who love rubbishing players before they've even pulled on a shirt for us will obviously think different

He obviously was a decent keeper but he's 37 in a couple of months time and hasn't played regularly since leaving Southend over 7 years ago.
A trial was definitely the best idea for a player who has played so little in recent years.

I'd have have him.
37 for a keeper, as long as they are still agile is fine.
He is experienced and probably better than what we have right now

You rate him but someone else might not. The only thing I will say is we should get behind them whatever but that doesnt mean we cant have an opinion on a player when they have signed for us.

He obviously was a decent keeper but he's 37 in a couple of months time and hasn't played regularly since leaving Southend over 7 years ago. A trial was definitely the best idea for a player who has played so little in recent years. In fairness he played a full season for Bournemouth in league 1, in 2011/12. He then had a serious shoulder injury which ruled him out of 2012/13 and has been their reserve keeper in the Championship for the last 2 seasons, playing just 3 games. It would be interesting to see from Cherries fans whether they think he still has it, as he certainly has previous form to be good enough for League 2. He was deemed good enough to have been given a 1 year contract by Bournemouth in 2014, so hasn't just been sitting out a long deal there. Here's an interview with him from the end of last season on leaving Bournemouth: m.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/12945737.AFC_Bournemouth_s_Darryl_Flahavan__I_miss_chucking_myself_around_on_a_Saturday_afternoon/

Even if we don't sign him, this is at least an indication that a problem area (in many people's opinions) is being addressed, which is enough to please me in itself

I'm guessing with this new keeper coming in on loan we won't be offering him anything anyway.

I'm guessing with this new keeper coming in on loan we won't be offering him anything anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed on trial a bit longer so Clarke can hedge his bets over Mildy's form and check out the loanee. If we were to end up signing Flahaven I doubt he would come cheap.

Exactly...not someone you'd sign as a 2nd choice.

So Portsmouth won't have a decent keeper when we play them?

Sounds like Saturday really could be a time to have a few pops at goal.
