Had a beer with a Sh*thead "friend" and he showed me a promotion video on his phone of the "NEW" Bristol Sport stadium and the bits they are opening today..... Made our "Mem" look like it is - a pile of out of date buildings not fit for purpose. Made me feel real sad that it's come to this Then i Got angry that our club is so poor & badly run Any floating support in Bristol is only ever going to go to one place and it ain't on Gloucester Road A club is so much more than a building or stadium. It is about the fans, the sense of belonging and the guys who put on the shirt. It is about history, local rivalries and caring what happens on that pitch. It is true that the bigger clubs and more swish stadiums can impress young kids and the kids in the playground will want to wear the shirt of the more famous club. We shouldn't give up the ghost however just because they have a better stadium - any neutral kid who came to Wembley or even travels to Yeovil this afternoon will want to be part of the Gas army. Fight on- our day will come - eventually !! Great post ! The Issue as i see it is a good stadium with Money making opportunities (not talking about the UWE) will feed that extra money into the playing side (i would hope) so in my minds eye the two have a symbiotic relationship that's my fear, with no extra money streams we will fall behind other clubs until we find our "Natural" level, whatever league that is....

Have to laugh at the price on the retro programmes though. Just when you think it's going to say "6d" it says THREE POUNDS.
Probably half a week's wages lol.

Wisdom it is. (Or is that more Welsh than Joda? I've created a Welsh Joda.) Edit: And why did I spell Yoda with a J? I've created a Welsh, Scandinavian Yoda.

Nearly 9000 fans aren't going to suddenly start watching another team in Bristol because they've got a nice new ground. Once the Sainsbury's saga is finally over we clearly need a plan to either rebuild the Mem or find external funding for the UWE.

I know that we all want the best for our club and that is natural, but all this defeatist shi t annoys me. For a lot of us on here, the most enjoyable period of supporting the Gas were the Twerton years, when we didn't have a pot to p iss in, didn't even have a hole in the ground to call our own, even, and and yet this spawned arguably the greatest period of success in our existence. When our backs are against the wall, that's when the Gas are at their most dangerous, traditionally. Well, our backs are against the wall now so what are we going to do? Moan like a bunch on teenage emos or drag this club up by its feet and fight our way back up the football league?

As much as I hate to say it the City are light years ahead of us. We have our work cut out to even attempt to emulate them sadly. I don't want us to emulate them. Never have and never will. We're Bristol Rovers not some franchise bunch of lady gardens. when I fell in love with this club it was an old fashioned football club playing in an old fashioned stadium in another town with a fantastic passionate following.

And yet you've spent the last three years telling us everything is going to be alright and to back the board. whats that got to do with it ? I still do back the board because its the only one we got at the moment and if we did not have a BRFC loving BOD the mem would have been a housing estate long ago and you will be watching some part time team on the downs Not all Germans backed Hitler!

Dint give a stuff if the sh** were top of the prem and champs of Europe and provided 1/2 of the england squad , did pie/pint and entry for a quid, and every seat in the ground had centraly heated bollock warmers and pee tubes in winter, and we were plaing on the downs, i wll gorever be a gashead, nothing will ever change that. if we wern't around i would not follow football simple as

However much they spend, and however sparkly their stadium is, it will still only be in south Bristol.

Group of Gasheads met up this morning in Newport (Shropshire) .Couldn't face the trip to-day after last Sat's display and the 4 hour M6 delay and closed turnstiles once we did make it.Reminised about when we played teams like ,Stoke,WBA and Norwich not that long ago.Not sure where it all went wrong but the fervour still burns brightly despite everything.A win to-day and we can all smile again.

We were a Div 1 club when NH took over with little debts playing decent teams, I don't think it takes a lot to work out where it all went wrong?

The Mem is a pile of out of date buildings not fit for purpose. But it's our pile of out of date buildings not fit for purpose. Until we sell it to pay off the Wonga loan.

So true it really looked like the end exiled from our city tennants at a non league ground. Most would have given us a season at best before we folded. Fortunately Rovers forgot to read the script and refused to lie down. Many thought the game was up when we fell into the conference, but we are still here. True the 82ers may hold all the aces at the moment, but we are still in the game and while we are there is always hope.

As much as I would love us to have a ground fit for 21st century supporters, it still remains a results business. City almost went down to League 2 the year we were relegated to the Conference. Credit to them for preventing it but they almost joined us in the basement.
Up until the play off final, maybe even Mansell's penalty, I would have traded league status for the UWE. Not now though.
We are competing for the support of the neutral but it is not a two horse race. We are both trying to compete with the Premier League and it is these teams we are more likely to lose out to. So for me we need to keep winning and keep entrance prices competitive, especially for children who may get hooked like we did.

Everybody aware we have a measly 300 odd members in the young pirates? It costs £8 to sign a kid up. With an average attendance of around 6K and a lot of non attending support, shouldn't the young pirates numbers be at least 3/4 times that? Fans for the future.

Problem with the YP's is the lack of value for money, I can't see it's worth £8 just to get a card on your birthday?
