Gonna have to hold my hands up to ggmi on this when he said at seasons start the budget is just not enough - i now agree the reduced budget this season is strangling us and DC is operating with one hand behind his back doing the best he can - this season we have gone up one level and are expected to have some success with a similar quality side to the one that just scraped a promotion against some very poor sides last season - Very sad to take but lots of disappointing results are only to be expected - UTG I agree that DC does seem to be operating with a budget smaller than we've been used to, but at the same time, has he spent what he has wisely? He signed Montano, but barely ever uses him. Last season he gave Blisset and Easter contracts that meant that they were guaranteed to be here this season, knowing already that Harrison was contracted for this season as well. It was his choice to spend part of his budget on re-signing Taylor, Gosling and Lines and he wanted to bring in James Clarke. Many of these players now look like they're not quite good enough at this level but whose fault is that other than the manager's? Blisset helped us get promotion which probably banked around £1m with Play Off gates receipts and this year's TV money/increased attendances etc so I guess we just write his contract off as money well spent. Likewise DC/NH promised Gosling & co contacts if they got us promoted and they could hardly go back on their words when they achieved it. Easter for 15 mins today showed he might be a decent signing after all and none of us complained when DC signed him last season. Montano looks a poor signing but perhaps he's all DC could afford as Myrie-Williams clearly felt we weren't offering enough money when he turned down his contract offer? Whilst fans are saying were good enough for mid table we certainly don't look it on our present home form, as one goal against Northampton, Oxford, Accrington & Pompey suggests we even worse upfront than in our relegation season, and possibly those stats aren't wrong as we don't have a decent winger in the squad and upfront Harrison lacks experience and Taylor nor Blisset look up to league standard. It's time for NH to back DC and give him funds to sign a centre forward and a winger or two. With Wycombe (x2) and Notts County up next at home it's hard to see the present squad winning a home game before the Newport County game.

The fact that Pompey could bring the likes of Roberts and Tubbs of the bench tells you how far clear of uthey are budget wise. Didn't think much of the CF started until he completely lost Parkes for his goal!

Going in to home games with a very defensive shape is hardly going to inspire regardless of who we are playing. Other teams with far less budget than us have got a result against Pompey. DC's tactics and team selection is so predictable. There are those players who will get a run of games no matter what and others who will only get another appearance if they come on and do something extraordinary.

Bodin,Montano,Blissett and maybe even Lucas and as for the forwards he just keeps swopping them and does not seem to see that we are creating very little because he is a defensive Manager.

Nothing I have seen this season convinces me we will end up in the top half. A couple of creative midfielders who can beat their man and play a killer pass and a big awkward streetwise centre forward is what we have been crying out for many a long day. The likes of Ollie Clarke, Gosling, Sinclair, Harrison and Taylor are non league players at best and todays display from those mentioned did nothing to convince me otherwise.

I thought Portsmouth were class - and so they should be with how much they spent over the summer and the squad they've assembled.
The spine of their squad is very strong and they have players like Bennett who can change a game in a second.
Stockley is the sort of CF our side is crying out for and their No.6 CB was a monster.
First half the formation didn't work at all - they were cutting through us at will and we created nothing. Second half playing 4-4-2 was better, but we need more quality on the wings.

Yes it ok saying stuff about budgets and all that, but at the end of the day we've lost 4 homes games out of 5. In anyone's book, that's relegation form. DC has to sort this out quick or I fear another relegation battle.

We seem to struggle especially at home in trying to break teams down, where as away from home we are more effective at sitting deep and hitting teams on the counter. DC needs to address this problem first & foremost.

What I expect is that we as a club learn from our mistakes.
We had no creativity when we got relegated from the Football League
We had no creativity when we failed to win the Conferehce desoite it being a mostly part-time poxy league
And low and behold we haven't got any creativity this season either and are the lowest scorers in the division
Why hasn't this been addressed? Its Dam embarrassing

Seems to me he's just moving the deck chairs around on the Titanic, once our away form slips, which it usually does for most we will be in big trouble. All we can really hope is confidence isn't completely shot by the time the home games start to look a bit easy against the likes of Newport. It really is time NH forgets Sainsbury's and sorts out the on field budget.

Not sure how a club like them on such miniscule crowds can have such a neat new stadium avoid debt and do OK.Anyway Harlepool tuesday a long way even from Stafford but so long since we had a win will give it a go.
