Don't know why Clarke insists on playing this formation. It only works if you have 2 proper wingbacks that get balls into the box. Leadbitter fits the roll but was extremely poor defensively today! Lee Brown is a left back and it was embarrassing at times watching him trying to play that role.
We look very very open defensive and invite pressure on the 3 centre backs. It's obvious we need to start games at 4-4-2 and get the basics right. I'd even rather see Locker at RB in place of Leadbitter after today! I'd put McCrystal straight back int the side of fit, we were lacking leaders on the pitch today!

Wingbacks allowed us to dominate some previous games. At least the team is capable of switching. To be fair, we came out firing at the start of the second half and got the goal. Now, the red side are moaning like **** because Cotteril is stubborn and won't change formation. At least we have a plan B (and I'm not talking about NH)

I rate him highly, he was just very poor defensively today, I'd like to see him have a run of games as an actual RB!

Leadbitter's quality, just not at his best today. Whether that was because it was first game back I'm not sure?

I thought DL's performance returning from injury was very good. He causes problems going forward in either formation. I thought he did get caught forward when we lost the ball quite a bit in the 2nd half, but then we were chasing the game.
For the first time today ( though I haven't seen all the games) I had a slight doubt about Tom Lockyer in the centre of the back 3. He's a good player, but he looked small against their big guys. It seemed odd to see the beefier James Clarke and Parkes either side. Power does count for such a lot in the middle of a back three.

I think the 3-5-2 allows us to be quite solid and difficult to break down (although today they were slicing through us at will), but we create very little and our play often seems to go down blind alleys.
We're more open in 4-4-2 and risk being overrun in the middle against some teams, but we look far more of an attacking threat and will probably score more goals playing this way.
But, our wingers just aren't very good IMO. Not top 7 good, anyway.

Don't think the formation is the problem. Just general lack of quality, especially finishing.

I thought leadbitter was again superb and praised his defensive play today. I think we should shelf 3 5 2 for a while and play 4 4 2 with leads and Bodin on the right. That's where any creativity came from today.

i prefer 4-4-2 but its not easy to play that with lines as hes not so good when the other team have the ball although a very good player when we have it,,,with mansell and sinclair say were more solid but not as creative,,not easy for dc
