While we are all getting down lets get a realistic view of what is required from this league Last year 71 points got you in the play offs Stevenage lost 16 games Plymouth lost 15 games We have lost 5 and have 10 points simple we need another 62 points from 37 games ! Onwards and upwards UTG

As much as I want to share the positivity, can you genuinely see us making the play offs with the current crop of players we have. I think many of us thought or were hoping there was little difference between the National league and league 2. That is very much a myth, and quintessentially we have sub standard players for this level. I'm fearful that this isn't too dissimilar to 2 years ago...

Well if you have gone to all the away games (which you might have) we have in most games played really well and have looked a good side I agree we need some new blood but we have some excellent young players in this squad and not a load of highly paid journeymen !

With the best will in the world, you can have the best mix of experience and youth at your disposal. But if you don't utilise a system that allows them to flourish, the game plan falls down & the weaknesses soon become apparent. I understand what you say about some of our away performances, but to get another 60 odd points and make the play offs we have to be winning our home games don't we?

We've won more games so far than we had in 13/14, we drew too many back then

Onwards and upwards UTG I like your optimism but as we have taken only a single point from the last 5 games and all those opponents are in the top 6 right now, then our chances of getting in there look minimal.Lost to 8th placed Northampton as well so a mid table finish would seem to be our best hope at the moment. The team spirit played a massive part last season but I don't believe bringing in the 2 or 3 players that we appear to need would be detrimental to that spirit.Doesnt look like there is room in the wage budget anyway so probably a non starter.

I'm pretty sure it would be easy to pull up a thread from last year after a few games saying that we should be worrying about going down to the Conference South, and how did anyone think that squad was good enough for top 5. As far as the quality of the leagues is concerned... we have played all the top teams, apart from Yeovil and Barnet, both of whom we beat convincingly. People are forgetting how crap the bottom 10 teams in this league are, the Newports, Yorks and Dagenhams of this world. Lets judge the league when we've played teams other than the top 10 and biggest spenders.

Looking at the table, we've played 6 of the top 8 already this season so its been a tough start. Against the teams 9th to 24th we have a 100% record (3 wins from 3). I'm not sure we'll do well enough to get into the play-offs but there are plenty of teams outside the play-offs that we are capable of beating in order to finish up in mid table. In a way, its good that we've been found out against the top teams. Thats better than being exposed by the bottom teams and it should give us knowledge on how to improve our team for when we do play the weaker teams. Edit: Basically my post says the same as rambo in his thread: gasheads.proboards.com/thread/4667/tough-start-keep-faith
