There's been a lot of opinion about what positions need strengthening in order to be successful in league 2. These opinions are scattered about across many different threads - so I thought I'd create one to bring all opinions into one place.
When I say successful, I mean able to challenge for a top 7 place. By the standards we should expect of our club, if we're not in the mix we are not succeeding (imo).
I believe we need a big striker with presence. Harrison, Easter and Taylor don't seem to worry opposition defenders. However, any of those guys would benefit, and look like a better player alongside a big no. 9.
Also, I think one of the reasons our midfield have been so deep is that every time the ball goes forward they're not confident in the current strikers' ability to hold it up for them. They don't want to spend the energy rushing forward knowing they'll have to immediately back peddle.
Apart from a big striker, we could do with a creative midfielder. We don't seem to have anyone with the instinct to find a killer pass, or go past a player. However, I don't think this is a necessity.

Given the Saints apparent money problems I guess they'd be happy to let us take him off their hands?

1 x 15-20 goal striker. 1 x winger (if we want to play 4-4-2). 1 x CM destroyer (to play next to Lines and let him push further up). Easy!

A two million pound striker target man who would cause controversy but score a hatful at this level, wait for it and free, and require low wages = Ched Evans!
Before our Gas C of E hit squad attack this post, I would like to point out that the crime he was convicted of was despicable and low, however if he had not been convicted he would still be in the championship.

And after serving the punishment handed down by the courts of this land he should be able to continue with whatever profession he chooses some might argue....

A right footed winger and a drastic improvement from Lines (our "creative" player) is what we need, I can't recall one game where the strikers have missed reams of chances this season. It's creativity that is the problem, we won't be able to tell whether our strikers are good enough or not if they're not going to get the chances to show us!
Unless Ched Evans' guilty verdict was retracted he'd cause national bad publicity for whoever signed him, maybe he could join the bloke who only served 3 1/2 years for killing two little boys? Plymouth obviously don't seem to care about things like bad press.

Initially Bad publicity, but some say there is no such thing as bad publicity, not my opinion, however after it all calmed down and if he was to win his appeal we would have a million pound striker on our hands. who dares wins, Rodney!

Just on that subject of young Ched... (What is that short for anyway?) ... is his case STILL awaiting review or did I miss it? It was discussed last week, but the Commission have not made a decision yet. According today's papers, there are six clubs who are waiting to sign him if it is successful.

Just on that subject of young Ched... (What is that short for anyway?) ... is his case STILL awaiting review or did I miss it? According today's papers, there are six clubs who are waiting to sign him if it is successful. He seems rather confident... www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3250732/Disgraced-footballer-Ched-Evans-boasted-rape-conviction-quashed-clubs-lining-sign-him.htmlRapist footballer Ched Evans has been boasting to friends that his conviction will be overturned and that six clubs are lining up to sign him, it has been claimed. The disgraced former Sheffield United striker, 26, served half of a five year jail sentence for raping a 19-year-old woman at a North Wales hotel, but maintains he is innocent because he believes the sex was consensual. The Criminal Cases Review Commission met last week to discuss whether to send the Welsh player's case to the Court of Appeal but a decision has not yet been made. Despite this, Evans' team is reportedly confident that they have succeeded, according to Richard Moriarty at the Sun on Sunday. A source said: 'Everyone connected to Ched appears to be confident the decision is going to go in their favour. 'His team have been in contact with clubs since his release last October and some new clubs have asked to be kept informed.' But Evans' aunt Nina Evans, 57, was critical of her nephew's 'over-confidence' and said 'he's got more chance playing football in hell'. When approached by MailOnline a spokesman for Evans' team said: 'We will be making no comments during the legal process.' After successfully applying to have his conviction examined by the CCRC, a bundle of 'previously unavailable fresh evidence' was handed over to the Commission in January on his behalf, in the hope of a referral to the Appeal Court. If the CCRC believes there is a case it is referred to the Court of Appeal, where judges will consider whether to overturn the conviction or order a retrial. This process could take up to a year to complete meaning Evans is unlikely to return to football before 2016 - if he is cleared. Evans is due to become a father next year after it was revealed in July that his fiancee Natasha Massey, his girlfriend at the time of the sex attack, was pregnant. His sister Kylie announced the news to her 3,882 followers on Twitter. She said: 'I'm going to be an aunty again I can not wait for the new arrival in January congratulations to my brother and Tash xxxx

Is Chilcott running it lol? I expect they're waiting until he's too old for it to matter, to get themselves off the hook.
