This really is a nonsense. I don't imagine we're too surprised over the season tickets but the Cambridge switch shows a total disregard for fans. Would Rovers have needed to agree this change? Does Mr Higgs have RWC final tickets? My blog bit.ly/1js24ix

Thanks for the well-written article as ever. While I agree with most of your points I think "total disregard for fans" is a little hyperbolic. I'd say it's more of an under-estimation of the effort and planning football fans make to see their team play. As I live in Stockholm, I only get to about 7 or 8 games a season so have to pick them carefully. I booked my Friday evening flights for this game to Stansted 2 months ago so it is a major annoyance although I'm hopeful of making the 2nd half.
The main points here for me:
- the dig at the board is a bit harsh as it was Cambridge who requested the date change and Rovers not accepting it would have looked a little petty seeing as there's plenty of occasions when we've asked teams to change to Friday night.
- This situation (which isn't a one-off by a long shot) could easily be resolved by the league bringing in a deadline (say 6 weeks before) after which dates can't be changed or better still, get rid of this whole Friday night football thing altogether.

My blog bit.ly/1js24ix I think it may well have a lot to do with Cambridge being a University city and the club therefor more likely to lose supporters to the rugby final especially if England had been there (fat chance).

The dig at the board isn't harsh, Rovers had to agree to the change. They are as much to blame.

Do they get much support from the academic quarter? I have a vision of thronging Cantab-types, in gowns and mortar-boards, parking their bicycles in a rack of thousands outside the ground or punting up the Cam with their football scarves on, heading for the match... doodling mathematical equations on their programmes at half-time or filling in their Latin crosswords as they await the kick-off.

I can understand where you're coming from but we've changed a few fixtures to a Friday night in the last few years. It's annoying but you can't really blame the board, infact if anything they managed to get the game screened live at the Mem so there should be some praise.

What I find a bit baffling about the decision to move the game to the Friday is that Rovers have never explained why a rugby match at Twickers effects a game being played in Cambridge, particularly as it's only our game being moved to the Friday in the FL?

Best ask the Cambridge Board as it was their decision.

Ya but £5 to get in and have to pay for expensive flat beer and cider with overpriced food to watch a football game on the telly is a bit much to ask loyal fans

It also goes up to £7 on the door if you can't be arsed to get a ticket beforehand, which is really taking the p, given there's no live commentary. At that price you may as well listen at home!

Just get down the Mem and watch it. Thanks for the practical suggestion, Baggs. Unfortunately I - like plenty of Gasheads - am based in London and it would take me as long to get to the Mem as Cambridge. Also, your suggestion ignores the fact that Rovers are lifted by good vocal support. They aren't going to hear you cheering from the Mem!

Is there actually no commentary? In fact, they'll blatantly put the radio on as commentary but it will be ahead of the TV.

I live an hour and a quarter from Cambridge and this is a pain in the ****. Friday night traffic around Cambridge and M25 means leaving work in London the middle of the afternoon to get home first and then drive to the game. Whinge, whinge, moan moan..Sympathise with Stockholm Gas though.

Harsh on the board IMO, but I agree that an early KO would have been a better solution.
