Have you started early on the Absinthe today? Trouble is, I kind of agree...watching the match from the Dribuild Terrace I once again thought he played well and had a good game. But watching the match highlights on various sites (and there are various different edits of the 'highlights' available) and he's always going backwards or sideways. Whether it's individual or team coaching (and let's be honest, he's never going to beat 5 defenders and slot it in the corner of the net) he's not as effective as it appears he is when he's on the ball. He's great at winning it back but he's not effective once he has it (and I don't mean trips over his own laces or gives it straight to their centre-forward, I just mean he's not creating chance after chance) When he wins the ball, who's charging forward past him? Nobody. When he's in space on the halfway line looking forward, which attacker is dropping short to receive it? Nobody (or at least nobody he can find). Ironically, the answer to who you would want doing either of those jobs (in this squad) is probably Sinclair himself. So he needs more individual coaching or the team needs more coaching to play around him. Let's not forget it's a big step up for him and effort is great. But effort with no result is pointless. This is totally unfair on Sinclair. Ray Wilkins admitted that he played better in the last years of his career when he had Olly running round like a madman in midfield getting the ball for him and the one and only success that England have had in the world cup was when Nobby Styles played in midfield and he fed the ball to Bobby Charlton and Martin Peters who were both able to shine . Sinclair plays a certain way and he does so very well. It is true that he does need a certain type of midfield player alongside him but its not his fault that Linesy is not on form .

But then you're missing my point (which I think is) Sinclair is wasted in that role in this team. The original post was about dropping him, which is one way to go. Another is to give him another role to allow two central midfielders to field off him (or indeed a completely different formation with other players able to bomb forward when he wins the ball). A third way is to pick another player (or sign another player) to play alongside him. I'm not saying he's not the best Bristol Rovers player in the team at the moment. I'm suggesting it's not working overall and dropping him is one option to fix the problem. Thankfully I'm not DC so it's not me who has to solve this conundrum... ...but I will say one other thing. We bought JJOT and then built (slightly too strong a word) *picked* a team around him. This made him look good occasionally and relegated us from the football league overall ( I think I realised this in January but when he scored late goals it blinded most fans to the change (ie dropping/replacing him) that needed to be made). I am in no way comparing JJOT and The Beard (as individuals or players), but sooner or later if something is not working you have to change it.
