In my work life I have a formal half year and annual assessment of my performance. I am measured on what I achieve and how I have behaved to deliver those achievements. I have weekly meetings with my boss to discuss how it's going and sometimes talk to him several times a day outside these meetings. But it is the 6 monthly reviews that determine my rating and pay.
I, as a supporter apply similar principles to DC, and previous managers. I try not to react on a daily / weekly basis to how we are doing but consider where we are at the turn of the year and the end of the season. I find this allows perspective and less emotional reactions. As an outsider to the daily goings on within the club / team I don't feel I can judge his weekly team selections too much ( I have no idea of injuries / personal problems of players etc). My view is that I am going to support DC wholeheartedly until he actually fails for a whole "half year" period, or maybe a full year.
So so with my perspective explained I would say that last year DC had a good 1st half year and a great 2nd half. He achieved the objective set. In terms of the how he did that I respected his words ( I.e. When he spoke about games it felt like he had watched the same game as me which is always nice) and felt tactically he was always learning and adapting. If I was grading him then he got an A.......an A+ would have required winning the conference.
As for this season, the objective in my mind and the beginning of the season was to make the playoffs. I had no objectives about the cups. So with 6 weeks to go till the new year it could go either way in terms of are we on track to make the playoffs and I make my first judgement. I'm indifferent to us losing in the cups, they are very much icing on a cake if they work out.
I did want to write this post before today's game but didn't manage it......so today's result does not change how I feel. I would have felt the same about DC.
I still feel the joy of winning when it happens and the misery when we lose but I do wish more people would look at our manager in the round.
I have written this thread partly after reading some ridiculous over the top posts in the last couple of weeks including calling for DC to be sacked. And don't get me started on the TBones and Joey Bs of this world who are obsessed with repeating a single point of view over and over......have your view by all means but enough already.
Anyway there you go.
