Thanks for posting these tables. This shows lots of things. Firstly how poor Rovers have been for a long time this Millenium. DC and team have taken a pasting online this week and in the best season we've had for many a year!! Now we are beginning to see light at the end of a tunnel with a young, inexperienced manager in charge. Yes, we will have hiccups and have bad weeks but I am impressed with how DC can dig deep and come back fighting and get a result. I think it also shows how far behind some of our natural rivals Rovers have fallen.only the BOD can start to do the strategic things that can get us back up there with the help of the team getting good results of course. I hate to say this but it also shows how our expectations have had to change. Whereas in past (1990s) we would have seen ourselves as being amongst favourites for play-offs in League 1 now we have to expect to be in same position but in League 2. Only when we are up can we hope to get back to where we think we belong. These tables don't show this but I also think we did better in Laegue 1 than League 2. Under PT we improved every year in League 1 until the awful season we went down. Whilst I don't want to open another thread on this and go over old ground but getting rid of PT was IMO a mistake and boy did we pay for it. Now we have another young manager who like us has high expectations and wants League 1 and has said that is where we should be at least. Well done DC.

Depressing really. Who would have thought Wigan and Swansea would go on to play in Europe and win FA Cups? How did Yeovil go from being shittter than Bath to better than us? Ah well...

And that good start is a good sign for the rest of the season.
I remember reading a few years ago in an analysis of the half-way point of the season that 90% of teams stay within 4 places at the end of the season of where they were at that half-way point. 10% of sides show dramatic surges up or down the table to buck the trend. Well, we're over a third of the way through the season, the "stress" of cup football has been taken out of our hands, so let's see where we are 7 games from now when we get to half-way.
In recent years we seem to start badly until Xmas and then improve, apart from 2014-15, where we started badly and then got worse.

The fact that our home form has been absolute turd, yet it's still the best start of the season for so long...
Been seeing some people call for DC's head lately. Wonder what they make of this.

Appreciate the efforts gone into the OP but I don't really like comparisons like this.
Far too many variables, different strength of teams, different budgets available for different Rovers managers but most importantly not all in the same division.

When you make any kind of football comparison there are variables. Is the League weaker? Are we stronger? But, a simple fact is that it's our best Football League start (points wise) for 15 years.

How would you go about analysing past league stats then? We can't go into the realms of " We were better then although we were bottom because the league was stronger" Can we?

Surely a 10 year spread is a good enough sample to show a mean average over?

Not sure what the issue is as the OP/DC are saying it's out best start fro 10 years, which is clearly is, not this is the best team in a decade, which it clearly isn't when we've played in Div 1.
Although it's where we areare in the league come May not November which is the main issue.
Hard to believe just a few years ago we were playing so clubs now in the Championship/Premiership!

The thing that makes it more impressive is the fixtures we've started with. We've played the entire top 10 (except from ourselves).

They're pretty pointless imo, when you look a bit deeper than taking them at face value. They can be misleading. Not doubting the last point, but the fact it covers us in league 1 and 2 makes it less impressive than I guess it was intended to be. Don't mean to sound negative! I'm happy with how the season is going.
