Been loads of comments from people about the need for a big man upfront. Are people jumping on the bandwagon? Do we really need one? What do people define as a target man? I'm in two minds.
I'd snap your hand off for Barry Corr (6ft 3") at Cambridge if DC was adamant we needed one. Everything went through him in the air and on the deck. And he had ability on the floor. He made things click for them in the final third. But that aint gonna happen.
I fear if we go in the market we'd be stuck with another Blissett at this level. (or Adam Cunnington) And that just isn't good enough. I feel like we'd have to pay a lot for something that may not come off. They aren't going to have a great goalscoring record.
It would change our game plan so much to predictable hoofing ball after ball up top. But then whos to say they have to be 6ft+..... Roberts (6ft) and Curo did alright.
It's a tricky one, I guess having a target man is just an option, but I'd deffo have a proven goalscorer like Matt Tubbs in (if that was an option) over a target man. Even if he is 4ft 8

A lot of comments are made from speculation that only "one signing can happen". I think many of the target man comments come from the idea that they'd rather that sort of player than a Tubbs- as they see him similar to what we have. If we could have Tubbs, a GK, A CM and another Winger- we probably all would.
Everyones got different priorities. For me- an attaching CM is numbero uno.
Whilst Lines was improved against Carlisle; one swallow does not a summer make.

We're more likely to score from corners and crosses. Leads puts some good balls in the box but it seems pointless half the time. Montano put some good balls in, in the first half saturday but again we couldn't win it in the air.

Given Cambridge's present league position even he can't be that good for them? What we need is a Corr/John Lewis/Reid/Carlisle CF type big forward just to give us options, although we don't want to revert to a "lump it to Harrold" approach again. Whilst Tubbs is a proven scorer the fact Pomepey might release suggests he doesn't always score, if he does a big CF is liable to create more chances for Taylor etc than another similar striker to them,

I'd prefer one of the players you mentioned to a lanky forward but they all score goals and that only increases the £££. Shame Harrison cant fit the bill as he wins a lot in the air but leaves a lot to be desired with his back to goal. We're probably going to get another cast-off like Cunnington who I didn't rate at all (inb4 someone posts his volley).

I would love a big man upfront. Definitely what we're missing even from the bench.

I think the general consensus is that we would ahve a different approach available if we had a "Big Man"...

We do not need a big man. We need a big footballer.

We do not need a big man. We need a big footballer. True mate, and that's where we went wrong with Blissett. A 'big footballer' costs ££££££ and are not easy to come by at this level. Which is why a blanket statement of 'we need a target man' needs a bit more thought imo

The reality is that you need options and giving us a big man would give us a new plan B or even a new plan A depending upon which way you look at it.
Presently our strikers are good at hitting teams on the break but struggle when teams pack players in the middle of defence and defend in numbers.
Our opponents realise this and seem to defend in numbers for the first part of the game and we dont have a physical presence who can impose himself in a crowded penalty area or even hold up play.

Since Bodin has come in, it's made the striker situation a little more clear. You can see he wants to play the killer ball, but no one seems to be able to read it. None of our current strikers seem to push the forward line - they all like to come deep and collect the ball. Perhaps Lucas is different? I don't know? We just need someone who puts the oppo on the back foot / plays off the shoulder. That way the killer balls could be played and I think we would break team down very easily. Saturday was a great example, we ran down the throat of Carlise on a number of occaisions, yet couldn't find the pass as no one seemed to get in a good enough position.

I never understand the obsession with notion of "we need a target man", maybe some are just repeating what they heard someone say in the pub.
You put a big lump up front if you want to bang long balls at his head. Do we want to play one dimensional football like that?
Daft thing is, the same people who call for a target man are often the same who deride long ball football. Baffles me.
Horses for courses. Play the footballers you need for the style of play you aim to achieve...and stick with it to make it work
I think what we have isn't working too badly and has the potential to achieve what we all want. If we really need a big lump, get one who can play good football

Our first match of the season against the cobblers was awful because all we did was bang it forward and their CB cresswell had a field day. Since then the football has improved and credit to DC we have been playing some good possession football.IMO if Easter was a yard quicker we would probably be in an automatic spot right now, that emphasizes the fine line in this division. As for a big lump who can play good football, yes please, but is that not what every team is looking for ?

i think a "big man" is needed but as many people have said he has to be a good player,no point otherwise. the current forwards struggle at home when teams sit back and defend, carlisle would have got a point had they not gone looking for a win imo

If we really need a big lump, get one who can play good football Using that logic we would have never signed Lambert? Fans aren't calling for a Devon White typr player, more a player who can physically lead the line, like John Lewis, Corr, Carlisle's sub, Northampton's Richards. The fact we signed Cunnington, Blisset & Wall last season suggests there's a need. Imagine Bodin though ball finding JL or Corr in the area they'd keep hold of it and then bring the likes of Taylor into the move. Likewise they might get a head on to Montano's crosses.

We're just below play-offs and doing alright, not special but alright so let's give what we've got a chance before we go elsewhere. Having been without a big man upfront we have tried to play football and play through opposition's defence. It is frustrating at times esp at home. UTG!!

DC makes a point almost every game that he changes his team depending upon what he thinks will beat the opponents and a good strong target man would give him more options. Simples

Simples Yes that's ok but I hope that we give Lucas a chance as I said. If we need a big front man that's fair enough but as we have those already in Blissett and Lucas I just think we should give those a chance before we spend money on someone else. If money wasn't a problem it may be different but as it is..... I suppose DC has seen them in training and doesn't think they are the answer.
