I know a lot of you will say it doesn't count because it's only womens football but Bristol academy, formerly Rovers ladies team, have submitted an application to be renamed Bristol City Womens football club! Symptomatic of the takeover of Bristol sport.

Symptomatic of the takeover of Bristol sport. They've been relegated, so the name change is quite apt.

Nothing wrong with this or we would be guilty of double standards. We took them over when they were a Cardiff based team. The Gas Girls were our MK Dons.

They are already under the Bristol Sport banner so this isn't a shock and makes sense really

Whilst the Club was formed from an scrapped old team to make Rovers Women it was then that things changed (and one of few rovers success stories) and the fan base was formed , the identity of the clubhas been torn away from the supporters , just because there are not many fans doesnt mean its right.... I fear for the Rugby club , the franchise is now in full flow and Name changes for all connected sports club is just around the corner. If Bristol Sport want an empire they should build it from scratch not buy up teams with intention of ripping that teams identity apart

You mean there was a team called the Gas Girls based in Cardiff ? The team was founded in 1998, following a merger between the Bristol Rovers girls' teams and Welsh side Cable-Tel L.F.C.. This merger came about as Bristol Rovers only had girls teams up to the under 16 age group level, so when girls reached the age of 16 they were forced to leave the club. The merger with Cable-Tel meant that Bristol Rovers had a senior squad, and more importantly it gave them a place in the South West Combination league, only two levels below the top flight of women's football in England. This new merged team took the name Bristol Rovers W.F.C. and played their home games at The Beeches, the training ground and administrative offices of Bristol Rovers, located in Brislington.

That was a quick reply tbh I made the comment in jest. Anyway the bottom line is whatever we think of it the name change is for the good of the womens team, but they can't change their history whatever they call themselves.
