Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke is still on the hunt for a player who would offer an added physical presence to his attack before the market for loan signings comes to a temporary halt.
The market for loan signings will close for a month after 5pm tomorrow and chairman Nick Higgs confirmed in his "message to supporters" on the club's official website on Monday that there were still "irons in the fire" in terms of bolstering his attacking options before the deadline.
Clarke has seen his three main strikers score 20 goals between them so far this season, but has been keen to have a player that offers an alternative option to his squad and has been on the hunt since compiling a list of League Two-ready targets over the summer.
Rovers have since made enquiries for five of those targets but were told nothing was doing by rival League Two clubs when tabling offers to sign them on permanent deals.
Clarke was then forced to switch his attentions to a more temporary solution in the form of loan signings once the summer transfer window closed, but has been selective in his targets, saying on numerous occasions that any player that arrived had to be of the "right type".
As a result, Rovers have turned down several offers to take young and inexperienced development players on temporary deals – although they are currently casting their eye over one who is a regular in the development side at a Championship club and has a small amount of Football League experience.
The club also managed to thrash out deals with two other targets recently before last-minute injuries to both players scuppered moves to force Clarke back to the drawing board.
The manager, however, is unlikely to do anything unless he can land his clearly-defined targets, but, after signing winger Paris Cowan-Hall on Monday, chairman Nick Higgs said: "That is a great start but we are still seeking to add to our striking options.
"We are always looking to support Darrell in his needs but as you all know, finding the right players who are willing to come here and buy into what Darrell is trying to do is not easy.
"We must ensure that we spend our money wisely and ensure the players we bring in will strengthen the current squad and give Darrell more options. But not only do we need to identify a willing player, but also a willing club, and that can often be difficult too."
