What is our budget compares to other teams in L2. DC said yesterday on Radio Bristol that our budget is much small than the top 7 but that includes Northampton! Yet at the start of the season NH said we will have a very competitive budget so what is the truth.

All Our budget isn't necessarily available for our current squad anyway with paying off previous plsyers and managers, our loan obviously takes up a fair bit too. Being in league 2 and having a large budget generally goes against you anyway because you end up paying stupid amounts to players who don't want to be there other than to pick up the big bucks. Our budget is probably lower than two years ago but I'm glad in a way, it means we haven't been ripped off by agents and the plsyers that are here want to be here and want to prove something. if we won the sainsburys case and could suddenly start paying out 3-4 grand a week on players again I'd be worried in this division, paying out money like that didn't exactly work out for us last time did it ?

Regardless of budget I do think our squad is good enough to be in top 7 I got the impression listening to DC that he was making excuses for or position.

I have a feeling our budget is below top 7 but Higgs saying it is competitive means if DC can get the best out of the budget then a top 7 is achievable hence DC setting this as a target. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't think that was too bad an estimate.

If I remember rightly our relegation season budget was 1.5 mil and that was cut in half for the conference season, don't think it's been raised much if at all this season so I think you might be just about right gasincider

The budget for the players wages is academic. At this level you need to find gems from the lower leagues who will play for sensible money or have the contacts with higher clubs to get in loan players on sensibly split wages. We're constantly talking about how much we can pay players when that's not the issue. Scouting and contacts is the issue, what's the budget for that?

If a big budget gets you players like Regan, I would rather have a small budget with the likes of Leadbitter.
Accrington are showing you don't need a big budget to be successful. You need players who want to play for the shirt and a manager who can organise them.

Flirting with the play offs for half a season isn't what I would call successful.
People on this forum keep talking about us wanting to progress to be a championship team and want it all done for peanuts!

What previous managers and players are still on the payroll who are not still at the club? It seems we've gone from one extreme to the other, now we seem to have a decent manager who can get the best out of players we've given him a tiny budget to work with. What I can't understand is where all the gate etc money is going, I assumed on the wonga loan interest but NH has now confirmed that's being added to the loan, what's happening to the additional income 6,000+ attendances must be bringing in compared to, say, Barnet's 2,000 who seem to have a similar wage budget?

Regardless of our supposed budget. We're going to have a season of ups and downs. Win a few, lose a few. Much like the last few months. We have a mid table squad, the benefit is that it's just about good enough to be looking up at the top 7 as opposed to worrying about a slide into the relegation dog fight.

I imagine we will have money available if we need a few extras for the run in... Depending on situation.
