I've never known a single hat trick to cause such a bloody fuss. He is an average LG2 striker, still unproven and very much learning his trade. WTF is going on here? Has anybody got their feet on the ground?

He would go with the best wishes of fans - same as Randall, Stewart, Taylor, Penrice, Hayles, Roberts, Cureton, Carayol and Lambert. Mostly correct, but not sure Cureton went with our best wishes!!

Mostly correct, but not sure Cureton went with our best wishes!! Or Jason Roberts for that matter! I don't think there was too much love lost for Caryol when he went. Wasn't he comparing his situation with us to slavery because we tried to keep him by offering a new contract and wanting a fee for him? got his big move to Borough but hasn't exactly set the world on fire since the move. Never hear anything about him now.

Has anybody got their feet on the ground? Or another way of looking at it is...he is the 2nd highest goalscorer in league two and improving. Only half year left on his contract. Worth a cheap gamble.

Id say it's certainly worth a cheap gamble for a struggling championship team, might be a gamble that scrapes them survival, I can't see it happening but it doesn't seem entirely unrealistic

It's a funny old game with a bit of spin thrown in!!

The thing is, a few games ago he was playing with another fairly short striker in a team that took for ever in the build up then hoisted crosses into the box. He was therefore left to contest high balls with defenders several inches taller.
Since the introduction of Gaffney the pressure to win the first ball has been taken off and I think the difference has been noticeable. I couldn't go to Exeter because I was working, but I was amazed how much more effective Taylor was against Wycscum. The opposition defence had something to worry about with Gaffney rampaging around the box and Matty had more time and space.
It should be remembered that 2 of his goals came from free kicks, the 2nd of which most refs would have ordered to be taken again, because they usually love to spray mark the ball position and stride out the 10 yards for the defensive wall. Then they take up their position before blowing for the kick to be taken. The 3rd goal was scored when the opposition had more or less given up because it came from a dreadful defensive mistake.

...most refs would have ordered to be taken again... I dunno. Istm a lot of refs do like to make it a slow free kick if they get a decent excuse, but Sincs did everything right. He picked the ball up then placed it exactly where it should go, and took the kick under the ref's nose, as soon as he possibly could. It didn't really give him an excuse.

From what dc said in the summer about him he's got the same clause as last season in 20 goals and he's got another year signed. It could be the case with even 2-3 goals before Xmas we might not need to offer him an extension as one is nearly already there

It's a funny old game with a bit of spin thrown in!! That is true of some on here but not all! Some just have to have a scapegoat. Take away the 'striker' in Taylor and you still have a very good footballer. Arguably the best at Rovers. Surely people can see that..

It really is unbelieavble how underrated Taylor has been by a lot of our fans especially considering all the crap strikers we had previous to him.

The Rovers have a lot of deluded and bitter people following them. They have a gripe with the board and are blinkered to the actual state of the football club and need a scapegoat. Darrel Clarke and Matt Taylor being the main targets,as unbelievable as it sounds. Before I get cyber hung from the highest gallow, I'd just like to say I'm not tarring us all with that brush!

Brilliant on his day but easily marked out of the game and then went missing in others. I Read somewhere he is on £30,000 a week at Middlesborough. Not bad for a Torquay reject signed from Lincoln?

You missed that the first was a dodgy free kick in the first place as well! Not sure any ref would disallow the second one as Sincs fortunately took the kick from the right spot.

Bill Paisley of Liverpool used to say that you can tell class players by their ability to control the ball with one touch and make space for themselves , Lambert used to do it, Marcus Stewart did it and Matty Taylor does it.
He wins more headers than someone his height should and I have always thought that he had the ability to play at a higher level except for the fact that the one thing missing from his game was his finishing.
If he has sorted this problem out then he should be able to cope at a higher level but that is a big "If".
I cant help thinking back to the last round of the FA Cup and our inability to score against Chesham. The same Matty Taylor was playing then and couldnt buy a goal and that was only 3 weeks ago.

[ Well, you say he couldn't buy a goal but he had scored 5 in 7 leading up to that game. Whilst I share the urge for caution when it comes to hyping our players up, he now has 12 in his last 14 games. It's a far longer run of top form than some are willing to give him credit for.
