All about opinions football. I saw Monkhouse work his socks off at both ends of the field better than any of our widemen options this season. Sure they are all faster than him but that just means they lose it faster And have no inclination to track back. Also Monky could deliver a decent ball - Browner is still making the runs this year but the quality of the link up play is not nearly as good and that is not Browners fault !

Playing alongside Disley now and I reckon they will beat Shrewsbury. Grimsby keeper just suffered an awful face injury.

What side did you watch last season then peterpirate? Andy Monkhouse was one of the main reasons we were promoted at the first time of asking , right player , in the right team at the right time Enjoyed watching his experience guile and professional efforts

But Grimsby offered more money/better contract? Yeah, we really wanted him to stay! Done ok with us last year. He's moved on. Shame some of us are still stuck in a warp zone where everything was better and the tote end clock worked.

I liked Monkhouse a lot. He brought a lot to the side last season. I'm sure he could have had a good season with us in League Two but as Gashead79 suggests, it's time to move on.

He found his level in the conference and wanted to stay there,he might look ok in conference but would get found out in league 2 too old and slow can't keep up with the play Brown must be fit as a fiddle now for all the running he done for him last season, credit him he can pass the ball well but when a player goes past him he's got no chance of catching him,it's like watching a article truck doing a three point turn For me he wasn't a major part why we went up it was the defence and the legs of Sinclair in the middle part of the season that got us going, just my opinion I don't rate him

How does that relate to my view on Monkhouses choice of contract offer?

I thought we wanted to keep him but he wanted to move back nearer his family in the north east

Monky was class for us. one of a kind sort of winger who we've missed this season.

Great for us last season, lots of goals and always involved in good passing moves, played a massive part in our promotion, but I think staying in the confrence was the best thing for him, only problem I have with him leaving is I expected us to replace him better then we did

Ex players are constantly referenced. Yes, Monkhouse was just a decent lower league pro but Kylegas is right, we haven't adequately replaced him so his name is bound to keep coming up. I'm not advocating that we should have kept him but none of the wingers since have come close in terms of consistency and dependability down the left. I don't see how that's living in the past?
