Excellent interview, here:
Not sure that the Mem is the connectedness and the soul of the urban fabric of Bristol, though.

Just bought in on Kindle. He's written one about the history of world football as well that looks interesting.

Excellent interview, here: Not sure that the Mem is the connectedness and the soul of the urban fabric of Bristol, though. I can see what he means. The Mem is quite unique in its position virtually on a high street which makes it great to visit and you can spend time there in the bars and cafes before and after. I would miss Gloucester Road if we moved.

Tim Vickery who I listen to on the world football phone in podcast every week brought his other book to my attention a while back so I bought it and am currently reading it, very interesting book and worth a read for sure, didn't know he was a gashead though, and I will definitely give this one a go too.

Just sat through 22 minutes of my life that I won't get back listening to his pretentious bullsh1t. All the cliches were present and correct, including the mandatory son of Jewish immigrants who grew up a Spurs fan but wasn't allowed to go because his father had moved up the gentrification ladder and football was far too rough.
Left-wing liberal social commentator moves to Bristol and buys a working - class home in a former working - class area that no working - class Bristolian could afford. Unless he or she was earning a minimum of £100k pa.
Goes on to lament the loss of the working class and the old football stadia that had such character, and reminded the cloth-capped hordes of their place. Oh, how I recall with fondness that evil smelling cesspit that was the men's toilet at the rear of the away end at Shrewsbury; those were the days!
I'm sure this member of the literary glitterati loves living in the London village that St Andrew, Bishopston and Horfield have become. I wonder where he stood on Horfield ROSE, TRASH etc. I suspect he quietly supported Daniell, Grafton, Williston and their cohorts.
Anything to spite the nasty mill owner Mr Higgs who lives in the big house on the hill.

The fact that I am disagreeing with what he says is debate, isn't it? people are allowed to take an opposing view. jus because this bloke likes Rovers doesn't mean I have to agree wth him. I thought we were all of the view that the Metropolitan elite that this man is clearly a part of are one of the main reasons this city in general and our club in particular are being held back. What do many of these people have n common? A Home Counties, pseudo Cockney accent. They have an insatiable Appetite for taking over and Islingtonfying areas of our city. Just because he's a Left Wing Liberal doesn't render him above criticism, despite several generations of brain washing. do you know, they haven't put an Xmas tree in my sons primary school this year, in case it offends the few Muslims that go there!

Regarding the book. It is rather academic and sociological. Certainly won't suit everybody (or many probably)

Still, some people obviously appreciate it.
