There's nothing like the roller-coaster ride that comes with being a Gashead. There was I thinking how great Christmas was, what a lovely family & friends I have, and how good the feeling was that Rovers were playing well, winning (at home too), in a nice position in the table AND that we had a decent centre forward. If Gaffers has gone and ain't comin' back, then frankly, it's been a crap Christmas / New Year.

Very few of us knew him before DC spotted him and brought him in. He has helped us earn some good points and the transfer window has only just opened.

Cambridge fan in peace here...thought I'd comment on the Gaffers debacle from our perspective, based on what we know - which to be fair is pretty much b*gger all. What is pretty certain is that the whole affair has hinged on Ben Williamson and his return to Gillingham. Sadly we couldn't hang onto him as the Gills first choice marksman has broken his leg. Derry was obviously keen to hang onto him as he's formed a fairly key part of the revitalised squad that SD put together when he arrived as manager. He was very pacey up front and has proved an excellent wingman to Barry Corr.
In terms of Gaffney, it was always SD's stated plan to bring him back - although as Williamson settled in and the chance of keeping him seemed likely, it seems that DC was given the nod for Gaffers to remain at the Gas on a free. That has been changed by the Williamson situation, so in some ways SD's hand has been forced. Our problem is that we are desperatley short of a reliable striker apart from Corr (who operated better with a wingman anyway). Derry now has no choice but to play Gaffney in the Williamson role. To be fair to Derry, he'd only seen Gaffers play a couple of times before the Gas loan and he didn't particularly impress in either game; Derry obviously came to the conclusion that fitness was his issue (as had been the problem with pretty much the whole squad - Derry's first act was to intensify their training regime). The rest is history.
I've no doubt Gaffers will be lining up for us against Crawley on Saturday - on the other hand, I could be eating my words if SD signs another loan striker this week. Personally - and I think most U's fans feel this way - I think we should really get behind Gaffers and give him the chance he deserves at the Abbey...we've waited long enough for it!
All the best for the rest of the season - COYU's!!!

Hopefully Gaffers comes back if not we need another target man asap.
Jayden Stockley has left Pompey and gone back to Bournemouth. He looked quality against us.

Would love to see the reaction if the jokes about gaffneys ginger hair were made to someone from a "protected group"
Just saying, you'd be arrested and banned for life, with hoards wanting them to "throw the book at you"for damage to someone's feelings.
What a myriad of double standards we lead.
I have a young ginger family member get stick for it....so did I (I'm only vaguely ginger though)
I applaud the jokes, don't get me wrong I'm not having a pop, except to those who believe it's any different to any other type of joke based on a persons appearance.
Just to get this straight, the following are fine:
Gingers Blonde women
Where does the source of all our moral compass (the media and judiciary) stand on fatties and 4 eyes these days? Is that a prison sentence yet?
I'm confused as it keeps changing and I can't keep up.

The FA need to come up with a list of what is or isn't acceptable to poke fun at. I do actually find that comment offensive. How do you think narcolepsy sufferers feel? :-)

First post? ?
And a robin in his username. Good shout. Ah, so the lynch mob are up are they ? Nice to meet you. Actually we are (the Royal we) a solid Gashead of almost 40 years standing. You haven't quite put me off resigning from the site, but it's a close run thing. The fact is that I think we've got a very good manager and a good team, both of which are improving nicely with time. Gaffney has fit in well on the pitch, and the team has looked ready to move up a gear. Positive. UTG.

No lynch mob, but for a first post you have to admit yours is a pretty strange one - lurching from one extreme of emotion to another in a few lines.
Welcome from me if you are as you say - perhaps a few words about yourself would help.
