Not a huge surprise clubs are interested but would be a massive shame if he went. I suppose the positives are that there's a big difference between 'interest' and 'doing a deal', plus in any deal with a PL club he'd almost certainly be loaned back to us.

Oh well, at least it would be another example of what a brilliant academy we have if he were to leave, he's got a great potential to reach the higher reaches of the game

Let's hope the fact we've let TL run down his contact doesn't come back to bite us if he does join a Premiership side? If he does perhaps they'll let him remain on loan with us until the summer?

That's different form being our Academy player though which was your inference.

I would be more gutted about Lockyer leaving than any other player since Lambert. That's how highly I rate him. I hope we can get him signed on a new deal, so any club will have to pay. The compensation that we receive will be peanuts compared to his value. Lets hope this journo has his facts wrong, although Lockyer deserves a shot at the big time.

His best move would be to sign an improved contract with us. He is a good defender but can't pass to a high standard for the clubs mentioned. His career could stall if he slips into development games at a bigger club. Saying that money could talk.

I was just going to say the same. Even if, as seems likely, Bournemouth are relegated, they'll have squillions in parachute payments from the Prem to invest in players and poor Tom could look forward to a season in the reserves. On a much bigger pay packet,of course.

On a much bigger pay packet,of course. It's such a difficult one though, and fans aren't always very good at looking at in a realistic way. That much bigger pay packet can be so important; ultimately if Tom stays here for his whole career it's almost certain that he'll have to get at least one more job before retirement, with what I imagine is very few qualifications and no real-life work experience. With the blue-tinted specs off for just a minute I can completely understand why a player might trade playing in front of 9000 to playing in front of 200 for Bournemouth Reserves in return for two or three times the money and future security.

Has any player seriously going to turn down a Premiership contract to stay at a Div 2 side so they can play first team football rather than U21 Football each week? Locks would be one of the first if he did? Although is he really good enough to join a Premiership side, even as a development player??

Looks like MSP can expect a capital repayment sometime soon. The family silver is being polished once again.

I hope not. My new song for him was sung by at least three people on Saturday... think it may catch on soon.

Whatever happens can't help but wish the lad good luck. He's always acted professionally, with dignity and has always given 100% every time he pulled our shirt on through good times and bad.

In all seriousness, I would be gutted if young Tom left. He really is an extremely classy defender and looks so assured at the back.
I genuinely feel it could be one of those situation with this crop, if 1 or 2 go then it's a big sign this club hasn't got ambition and then a few more may follow suit. I'm hoping the club (because I know DC is highly ambitious) is able to facilitate these exciting talents.

Bloody January. Need to get through the next few weeks unscathed. Keeping locks is more important than signing gaffney.
I trust dc to replace any outgoings but this would be a real blow.
The next 5 months are huge, promotion and we can probably keep hold of locks, taylor etc another season, no promotion and we'll probably be looking for a new star defender and striker come the summer.

Truth is for most PL clubs and some Championship, that they can afford to take a punt on players like Lockyer. Could most likely pay them more wages, even by just having them in their reserves.
Sad times in the English game when it happens.
