Signs for Cambridge United from Gillingham for an undisclosed fee. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35323948 It seems that whatever fee we paid has been used for them to get the bloke they really wanted all along. We need Gaffney to pick up where he left off for us now to show we got the better deal.

A return to Cambridge United for Ben Williamson has been ruled out by Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh. Shaun Derry had hoped to keep hold of the 27-year-old marksman following the end of his loan spell in Saturday's 4-1 defeat at home to Wimbledon, with Williamson having scored three goals in eight games during his time at the Abbey. But Edinburgh said he was pleased to have Williamson back in the fold at Priestfield and that he would go straight into the squad for their Sky Bet League One clash with Wigan on Thursday. "He has done it at this level before, there is no doubt about that, so I think he is like a new signing again," said Edinburgh at a Gills press call this afternoon. This would suggest that Gillingham told Derry he could only have Williamson for a fee at the end of his loan spell. Realising there was no spare cash, that C@nt then reneged on his agreement with DC that Gaffney could come to us on a free in order to force us to pay a fee that would be used to buy Williamson.
Ther can be no other explanation, it all fits together too well to be coincidence. I hope this bit of sharp business comes back and bites Derry on the arse.
Once again DC has shown he is a class act, and has been totally neutral in all of this, refusing to rise to the bate and say what he really thinks, which I'm sure isn't very complimentary to Derry and CUFC.

Which is good because he will now get 3 months of competitive football, much better than playing the occasional reserve fixture. Lyttle has gone out on loan as well.

Derry made it clear that he didn't want Gaffney and I think that the only reason that he played him last week was because he was covering his backside because he was aware of the backlash if he wasn't seen to be giving him a fair chance. Now he has his preferred option and is seen to have given Gaffney a try. Obviously our deal went through because they had succeeded in negotiating the release of Williamson and Nick Higgs may have been aware of those negotiations which were going along back to back with the Cambridge and Gillingham talks. Our inability to convert any chances against Barnet last week probably increased our valuation of Rory

Let's hope Gaffney is shown to be the best signing out of the pair come May.
