I had a little thought last night (i know it hurt) and wondered if DC did not offer any new contracts to players because he knew he was getting a better playing budget with the New owners and would let some players go replaced by better one's ?

Hmm, interesting thought. Will be interesting to see if MT does go to Hearts as incider suggested and whether we do release some players we thought we'd keep.
Also depends on which division we find ourselves next year. Maybe DC knew for a while of Wael and co and has had his hands tied regarding contracts until it all went thru. It would be good now to reward the players like Brown and Lockyer who stuck with us thru the misery with improved contracts suitable for league one, but not so generous as to put us in a precarious position in negotiations with future mercenaries!

Good point indeed , never crossed my mind but makes great sense

Would you be prepared to pay £2k+ per week for a known player, not someone you have to Google to find out who they are, who could ensure you get into the playoffs?
The deal would be the wages until June 2016, then if we get promoted we can discuss a new Contract. I am on about championship type players who are not getting regular first team games.

Probably the opposite NH told him he wasn't sanctioning any long term contracts when he was trying to sell the club? It'll be interesting to see if the likes of Lockyer are now given contract extensions asap? Interesting that the new Chairman suggested DC was totally in control of the playing side of matters yesterday.

I got a feeling every player will be running around like the beard today except mildly of course, what a massive opportunity for all the players It's not if we can keep hold of them anymore it's if we want them and if they are good enough, like Dc said after Pompey that was not good enough and if a player doesn't play well they will be out the club

Agreed on Brown he really did stick with us when he could have gone elsewhere. At the time though Locks wasn't even a first team regular albeit he has come to the fore now and is looking a good young player. Also people suggesting its whether we want to keep players etc now. As yet we have no idea how much or how fast they want to inject money into the club. Think we need to keep our feet on the ground a bit more. UTG

We need to make sure we keep Lockyer for what he can do for us going forward, nothing to do with his loyalty (although that's good too).

I'd rather get Locks on a new contract than Brown personally.

when have we ever dished out new contracts mid season , once the season is over DC will write his retained list like every other manger in the country and offer contracts out to the players he wants to keep . where is the sense in dismantling a successful squad anyways .

UTG Locks actually was then as well, he played a large part of the season at centre mid didn't he, but Ward gave him and Clarke long contracts earlier in the season so a. He wasn't exactly wanted by other clubs at that point, and b. Was under contract anyway, but yeah I agree with you tho, brown for sure, also agree with the rest of your post about staying grounded as well
