Have been thinking for ages now(and today's Post agrees),it is about time our defenders started chipping in with some goals. Especially the central defenders,Parkes etc. Hate to mention them, but I almost expect Flint to score for the s##t. We could certainly do with the amount of goals he gets from corners and free kicks. Why cannot our centre halves hit the back of the net? Am sure they practice, but it is not working.

We've been poor for a very long time on set pieces not just the DC era.
Who can remember Stuart Campbell's awful corner technique??

Think we need Strikers to start scoring consistently first, before we start calling for more goals from midfield, let alone Defence!!!!

Surely the concern is more to do with the lack of goals from midfield and not the defence?

Hang on a minute... If you almost EXPECT ''Flint to score for the sh!t'' then you pay FAR too much attention to them. I want them to lose BIG time, but I couldn't name more than a couple of their players, let alone know who might score for them!!

Surely the concern is more to do with the lack of goals from midfield and not the defence? But the defenders are the ones with height to go up for corners & free kicks. Parkes and Lockyer keep coming close - but nothing yet (that I can remember!).

Strikers can clear efforts off the line from corners, big dev was a great defender from corners, likewise big centrebacks should be a goal threat from our corners and free kicks. I would like to see us shoot more when the chance arises

Agreed defenders could chip in from long range and set pieces, but I don't think you should rely on defenders scoring goals to win games.

Would be nice for the CBs to be hitting around 5 goals each in a season - but Parkes has a 50 pence head and Lockyer has had a couple cleared off the line.
We haven't had a CM score in a game since 28th November though. Which IMO is pretty poor.

Imgine today's chat at the training ground
WAQ: Do you think our lack of goals away form home is a bit of worry? DC: Not really, I have a good plan WAQ: A plan? DC: Yes, I'm hoping you can persuade Chelsea to let us have John Terry so he can score a few goals from set pieces? WAQ: I'll see what I can do but I was really hoping for a better plan TBH

Maybe in general but you still expect your defenders to chip in with a few goals from set pieces. Our conversion rate from corners must be absolutely woeful this season. I'll be surprised if it is over 0.5% let alone 1%.

Agree we could do with the centre backs chipping in, maybe Yatesy could help them he was prolific in his time. 0 in 197

I think it's down to everyone to step up and start bloody scoring, and start playing better for that matter. Second half against morcambe aside we haven't played well or shown enough fighting spirit these last few weeks. UTG

Fair comment by the OP. Our scoring record from corners in particular is appalling. Another nine last Saturday against the oppositions two and away from home at that. Flint of the sh**e has been mentioned and being totally honest his attacking of the ball at the near post is superb, all we seem to do is all stand static in the middle of the goal and hope the ball lands on our players head.Invariably they are overhit and end up in touch. And as for Tom Parkes receiving extra coaching from Marcus Stewart to improve his scoring rate from corners. Leave you all to make your own minds up about what went wrong there.

Fair point made by the OP. Unsurprisingly others are unable to take it seriously. Our conversion from set pieces is criminal, we are no threat at all from corners of free kicks. We shouldn't rely on goals from the forwards alone.
