I just can't understand the criticism of defenders for not scoring they are some of the best defenders in this league they are doing their job. It's the strikers who are not doing their job.

Not sure anybody is criticising.. However while your at it. What's the purpose of the defenders coming up for corners/free kicks if it's not in their remit? Strikers have a role to play in defence and defenders have a role to play in attack.

'it is about time our defenders started chipping in with some goals' that is criticism I am not saying that defenders should not get scoring situations where they can I am just saying that they should not be expected to score. In much the same way as attackers help out, but are not expected to defend well.

I see that as a fair request? All open to interpretation though I suppose!

Still think the issue is as a team we don't create enough chances, particularly away from home, on Saturday wasn't Taylor's long range shot the only one which trouble the Wycombe goalie, at Accy & Pompey we also created v. little?

It's always good when a defender scores the odd goal, usually from a corner or set piece oddly enough but this whole statement is crazy. midfielders and forwards generally score the goals for obvious reasons but it's just not happening at present. It's back to the drawing board with the formations and find a winning and settled one.

It was not meant as a criticism of our defenders defending, that is their main job,but defenders are expected to get a certain amount of goals each season surely? I am sure DC is of the same mind. I still say they should be hitting the back of the net from corners, free kicks far more than the have been doing.

DC is expecting defenders to score some goals at least as he referred to our centre halves not scoring. This was part of his interview after the Wycombe game.

Corners are either over hit, or go straight to the goalie, (they then blame the wind / rain / fire ect). Free kicks, well they usually go wide, over, or straight at the goalie. No one blames anyone except Lawrence who blames everyone in the oppositions half.
Seriously, I think Lines takes the best free kicks, unfortunately he isn't on the pitch enough. It's ok swapping the team around but you need to have 2 centre backs 2 midfielders and 2 forwards who are in the team every week, just so you have players who know each other down the spine.

I've always thought that strikers are meant to score and defenders are meant to stop the other team scoring. Maybe in general but you still expect your defenders to chip in with a few goals from set pieces. Our conversion rate from corners must be absolutely woeful this season. I'll be surprised if it is over 0.5% let alone 1%. I'm always genuinely surprised when our set-pieces don't hit the first defender....and then even more surprised when we find an attacking player.... Surely the concern is more to do with the lack of goals from midfield and not the defence? It's all about passages of play. I'm worried there are so few goals from midfield in open play and so few goals from defenders at set-pieces.

At corners, they just need to start- really hitting, no placement just utter power off the noggin. Focus only on connection, not aim. Hell for leather power/ focus.
You are only a short distance from goal when heading a corner. Don't think about where it's going, any hesitation and someone will beat you to the ball.
Just whack it.

Run to the ball, not wait for it to arrive!
