Supporting our Youngsters
As you will recall our Supporters Club, Weston Super Mare Gas, our branches and The Fans Forum, greatly value the importance of developing youngsters at the club. Together, they have constantantly ‘put their money where their mouth is’ buy making cash gifts and actvely supporting our Academy and Youth setup at Bristol Rovers. I am delighted to say Paul Molesworth’s Central Development side, which is based at Henley in Arden College near Stratford Upon Avon, playing under our Bristol Rovers club name, is also a beneficiary to which £3,500 has already been spent on Bristol Rovers kit for the youngsters.
The reason for mentioning this is that you will recall Jamie Lucas earlier came through this system. Without giving any secrets away, I am delighted to have been informed that yet another youngster is now on his way to the Mem from Paul’s set-up. I understand scholarship forms have been agreed, the youngster is 16 and a prolific striker. Wow! No doubt the club will be introducing him to you very soon. Therefore a massive thank you to you all for your ongoing financial support.
By the way, I was asked by several supporters prior to the Hartlepool game, if it was possible for Paul to bring the team down to the Mem from Henley and I hope that will be a possibility before the end of the season.
Phil Johns
On behalf of everyone at Bristol Rovers, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Phil Johns a very happy 80th birthday yesterday (11th March). Phil has been a season ticket holder for over 45-years and a supporters for over 70 years. Phil, who sits in the Dribuild, is also a cousin of the late Don Revie OBE.
Regrettably, Phil’s birthday message slipped out during the Hartlepool match, which couldn’t be helped due to all the confusion which took place due to the take-over that weekend. Our apologies Phil, but we all hope you had a great day yesterday and thank you for your continuing support.
Meningitis Now Charity Harbour Walk – Sunday 10th April
I know you will be aware of Ken’s charity walk with Jeff Stelling on Monday 21st and we wish him and Jeff every success with that. I also wanted to draw to your attention another sponsored walk which is taking place on behalf of the Meningitis Now on Sunday 10th April. This event is being organised by one of our own supporters Paul Hobbs. You may well know Paul has raised over £100,000 for local meningitis charities. Paul is also a very well know loyal Gashead.
This scenic 5-mile sponsored walk around Bristol Harbourside, kicks off around 10am and is due to finish around 1pm. Tickets can be purchased via this website:

Please support this event if you can and I hope to be there in person if possible.
Mansfield Today
I’m sure many of us will remember our earlier meeting with Mansfield this season with a game that was surrounded in controversy. The Stags finishing with nine men and Rovers celebrated a 2-1 victory. I’m sure today’s game will be equally entertaining but hopefully all for the right reasons. Many thanks for your support and enjoy the game!
