Where would we we be today if we had beaten Mansfield 1-0 in May 2014? And stayed in the Football League?
DC would have stayed in charge. He would have had a bigger budget. NH would have faced less criticism. The court cases would have proceeded as they have done anyway. The year-on-year losses would have continued. OTIB would have been gutted. We might not have signed The Beard or Matty T.
It would have been a whole different world for the sake of one goal.

Going down was the best thing to happen to us because we came straight back up and now have a group of players and manager hungry for success. Could have been so different if Ellis had not scored or any of the five missed there pens.

I riddle myself this at least once a day. For me the season in the Conference will forever be a red mark in our history books but it was bloody good fun. Selfishly, I think my personal enjoyment of last year just shades the immortal shame of BRFC having been a "non-League" side for 12 months. There's no way we'll ever know what would have/could have happened had we stayed up that year but I think that on the whole I'm glad our season in the Bananarama Enterprise Rental Car National Front Tinpot Bristol Rovers League happened.
Print that, B*stard.

I'm not saying it would have been good. I just wonder how it might have been. As I said, we would still have DC. On the other hand we would still have NH, maybe. And where would we have been had we stayed in League 2 without Mattee and the Beard? And would Wael have stepped in? Two years ago we would have sold our souls to the devil for today's result. Had we done so, where would we be now?

Providing things stay on the upward trend, our spell in the conference only serves to make any progress we make that much sweeter. Hopefully it will keep some of us honest and humble to have tasted hell but to have returned. When we eventually play and beat city in the league the elation will be unparalleled. It will be something most sheeds simply could not imagine as it will be a victory of true resurgence from the ocean wreck of our nightmare past. Something god willing they will one day taste themselves.

It's really impossible to know as who would have thought Wycombe would have almost gone up last season, or Torquay be now heading for Conference South whilst we challenge for a promotion spot?
The oddest one is where would we be if we hadn't been forced by Trash to get the MSP loan as they introduced the Al-Quad's to the club.

I think the spell in the conference was definitely needed. I really don't think Clarke would have been gave enough time either if things went pear shaped and League status was again at risk.
In my short time of supporting the club, JPT final, Wembley 06/07, FA Cup Quarters, it's odd but getting relegated is the best thing to happen to us. Thing's really do look bright. We have a gem of a manager, who will go far and we have a squad who for the first time probably since the few seasons around 06/07 that play for the shirt and for each other. We have owners who have done more in the few weeks than the previous did in years. I don't set high expectations and I really didn't expect more than just staying up this season, and when DC came out and said top7 is the goal I thought he was a bit mad! Well, he is! We're going for top7 on our smallest League 2 budget since we've been relegated from League 1. How PB, MM and JW failed so much on massive budgets is beyond me when DC makes it look so easy.

Smallest budget but probably still a decent budget for this division, Mansfield had a god awful squad yesterday, with Beardsley being thier No 9!, but were still competitive. You sense NH's lack of control just let the likes of PT/PB/MM & JW just waste millions on wages. God knows how we've been lucky enough to pick up DC & the ALQ's in just a couple of seasons.

falling to rock bottom is sometimes good in life. It was our salvation because it was bound to happen eventually. We had been in decline for several seasons and relying on 'journeymen' and part time BOD. Relegation changed the whole dimension of the club - better control on spending (player wages) and at last the loss of our belief that being in the football league proper was our right -it was and is not - we have to deserve that right -What we have now is a BOD comprised of people who are there because of their expertise - not because they have loaned £100,000 to be able to sit in the best seats and enjoy steak and trimmings before the match home and away.
