We've signed Will Puddy on non-contract terms to cover Preston who's with Scotland U19s. Puddy used to play for Salisbury.
This is according to James McNamara.

I highly doubt Puddy will be here long term. What would be the point? It would be a waste of wages to have 3 keepers and would only detriment KP's progress if he was behind yet another player in the pecking order.
Having said that he's decent enough back-up while Preston is away.

Unless we wanted to loan out Preston to get him regular game time?

Was he Salisbury's backup? No, first choice. 40+ apps for them last season.

Do you think we were already aware Mildenhall could be unavailable last night hence signing Puddy or was it just a coincidence?

Yeah, in fairness to him it does sound like he was chucked in at the deep end a bit. Anybody that went to the game, what did you make of his performance?

I guess that DC was aware that Mildenhall's mother was ill, and that he might need to leave the squad at short notice. As others have said, Puddy was in at the deep end, if he plays on Saturday he will have had a few days training with the squad, so fairer to pass judgement on him then.

The second goal came from a shot that he pushed back towards the middle of the goal. So, yes, he was at fault but more could have been done to close down the original shot and then no-one was following in the rebound apart from the Barnet player.

He pumped it long and straight to their CBs all game apart from the first 5 when he hooked it wide left every time.(probably trying to avoid the cbs) He was quiet. He rarely came out of the 6 yard box. He had little chance with the first. He fluffed the second and got little help from the defence on the rebound. He was slow in posession, hence hopeful long clearances. He lost the confidence of the defence, leading to rushed clearances of balls that would normally be Keepers. Not a great game for the lad but neither was it for 8/9 of them. I didn't see a senior player talk to him or reassure him other than when he had a pop at akinde, macca had a word. We missed a leader at the back, we missed mildys direction and vocals.

Makes the decision not to start with Parkes all the more baffling. At least with Parkes and McChrystal in central defence there would have been some base of consistency at the back. I feel that McChrystal reverts to long ball when he isn't comfortable with those around him and this then spreads to the rest of the back line.

In the first 5 minutes McChrystal and Lockyer put the ball out for throw-ins instead of a simple back-pass.

He was poor last night, the shot leading up to their second looked to be going wide, if he wanted to make sure of it he should have pushed it wide. Instead he pushed back into play, not entirely his fault as either of McChrystal or Trotman should have been back to clear it. After that he looked very shakey. Confidence was shot.
