Ok, apologies if I misread it. But they still don't want to be associated with a significant sporting project in their supposedly 'home' city... It is an interesting discussion though about Glos CCC's home. I grew up in Brislington and everyone there was a Somerset CCC fan for historical boundary reasons. Whenever Whitchurch CC, Brislington CC, Knowle CC and Hengrove CC had award presentation evenings they tended to invite Somerset players to be the special guests as they all think they are in Somerset. And this is also true of certain organisations. I was player manager of a local football team based in Hengrove for 15 years and we were the only team in the league that wasn't allowed to enter the Gloucestershire Cup - the league officials told us we had to enter the Somerset Cup because of where our home ground was situated. So basically most people I know think that Bristol is more 'Somerset' than 'Glos' Somerset used to play games at the Imperial Ground so understandably many peeps in BS4, BS3 etc would feel a local allegiance to them Remember seeing Greg Chappell score a century in one of the early John Player Sunday League matches at Brislington in 1969. Think it was one of the first, if not the first, 100 in the JPL. Shane Warne played at the old Imperial Ground and actually slept at the top of the old pavilion I seem to remember. ps Sorry this is cricket and perhaps should have put it on Cricket part.

Turning a load of cheap, mediocre teams into a load of expensive, mediocre teams. This would make a terrific hashtag for them to have emblazoned on the shirts of all their respective teams. Seeing as they think hashtags are so important.

The article doesn't appear to mention how successful City have been with his tens of millions thrown at them? Strange. Seems to focus on the rugby clubs recent success.

I reckon SL will change the kit to RED Nope. He has decided that the senior team at the theatre of screams, in respect of age and league positions is the egg chasers. Therefore, their colours of blue and white will become the dominant ones at Trashcan. However, he is determined that there is no way on earth that the teds will play in their bitter rivals' colours of blue and white quarters. So, from next season they will wear white and blue quarters

I reckon SL will change the kit to RED Of course he will...first there will be little bits of red in the trim etc then more and more..like how Bristol rovers !acids went from blue n white to red and had a name change or two along the way. Though I think it is BCFC who will lose the city part of the name......you heard it here first.

My Sis was with me and Geoff Boycott told her to f- off when she asked him for an autograph - she was nine years old and burst into tears. Mind you, she did ask him literally just after he was given out LBW and was walking off, but still no way to talk to a young girl...

Bristol Rugby going up is the best thing to have happened.
He'll get bored real quick funding a consistantly under performing football club when he can put money into Premiership Bristol Rugby.

Before 1373 all Bristol north of the Avon was in Gloucestershire. Glos CCC have always had their home ground in north Bristol. Not entirely true - Glos CCC has had home grounds in Cheltenham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stroud, Lydney, Swindon, Tewkesbury, Trowbridge and Gloucester, as well as Bristol. They certainly haven't always had a home ground in Bristol. They've been based at the County Ground in Bristol since the days of WG Grace. Playing fixtures at other venues is not the same as having a 'home' ground there. Somerset have played limited over matches at W-S-M for instance - they are not based there.

Yes I remember standing on a low wall surrounding one of the parks in wsm when I was a young teenager and being able to see over the poor fence/screen . Only watched for a short while ,was the glory days of Botham, richards and garner at somerset.

Steve Lansdown wants this sport project part vanity but also its fricking dynamite in financial services.
FS is primarily dealing with the rich. The more successfull an adviser or supplier, the richer client you need. Think of the hobnobbing opportunities with all this hospitality. A range of sports - even a PC one like women's football and fringe sports. Indeed, rugger will become the main focus as most rich buggers are rugger buggers. There are strict FCA controls on entertainment but SL is so powerful I am sure there are ways around.
This project is basically Steve Lansdown getting loads of kudos and cred in the world of the mega rich.

I thought he'd sold out of the financial services industry and was now sipping on pina coladas in Guernsey using his ill-gotten gains - with the occasional day trip back to the motherland for a jolly when HMRC gave him permission. Edit: but a quick Google tells me you're right and I'm wrong!
