“I put an offer on the table for a striker, but the lad has opted to go to Dagenham,” said Clarke. “I am really disappointed with that one because he had real presence and we had agreed terms. The wide player I have been tracking for a while is very, very expensive, so it is back to the drawing board on that front.” Read more: gasheads.org/thread/907/clarke-update-on-recruitment#ixzz3AG8qDT54Higgs and co get your finger out!

I thought we all complain when they throw money around ? I'm not saying throw it around but we should put enough in to give us a competitive squad and allow the manager to get the players he wants.

Agree with this. Looking at the players that DC has brought in already, I would say that whoever the winger is, must be decent, so be worth splashing the cash on.
Just my opinion, of course!

Why was he chasing him all summer if he knew he was very, very expensive? I wonder how much Barnet's wingers are paid?

I thought we all complain when they throw money around ? It's one thing throwing it around but if we haven't even got a squad that can compete then it's clear that money is needed.

I thought we all complain when they throw money around ? I think the issue here is that board (or Mr Higgs) said we had money.. a competative budget ? one of the highest in the league? Seems somethings changed , thats fair enough but rather than leaving the manager to take all the cr4p (no when have we seen this done before?) why hasnt Nick or another board member come out and been honest (now that would be different) and admit we are skint and due to changes within the club the budget has been cut . Its says all you need to know when Daggers are out bidding us on the wage front (they are reknowned as one of the lowest paying clubs around as they have no choice on the tiny gate recpipts they have) Honesty and communication is something this board dont deal with , shame as they would get a lot more respect if they did!

I agree, but we must stop jumping from, we must spend to improve to we have burnt money for fun buying rubbish. We can't blame to board for buying rubbish that the manager wanted and then blame them for not spending money on what the new manager wants.

What if he just wanted a league club ? not out bid just not liked ! Maybe so? we wont ever know ... money talks though and wages that the ex salisbury players are low in comparison to what we used to pay out .. we are definatley not on a competative budget with teams like Eastleigh and FGR thats for sure (but then many L2 clubs dont match those!)

We might have a 'decent' budget for this division, but that doesn't count for much when half of it is being taken up by a handful of remaining players from last season. Sinclair is on a quarter of the wage of JJOT for example.
We need a couple of quality players in midfield, that will make a massive difference. I'm not saying we need to go over the top or throw out 3 year contracts, but it could be the make or break as far as this season is concerned. Barry Bradshaw saying we need a striker shows how little the board know, the strikers can't do anything without service.

So do we know who the striker was? Couldn't see anything on the Daggers website.

Have we paid a fee for any player on so far ?
We have released so many and other very well paid players have gone. Surely we must have funds available ? BSS had said we do have funds. I hope DC is not just bargain hunting. This needs addressing very soon and cannot wait until we are 10/15 points from the top 3. Very worried now this is the second time talks have broken down at the last minute. Surely if terms were agreed then something must have changed for that to break down. DC must learn to not say it's certain if it is not.

DC clearly stated on Saturday that the loan player wanted to come to us, his Manager wanted him to join us and it was down to the other clubs Chief Exc. to agree the money side. Would appear they wanted us to pay too much of his present wage.

Surely there's not only one f'ing striker or winger DC can sign? Can you imagine GJ would have similar problems if he was our manager, either DC is BS'ing and he isn't trying to sign anybody or players won't sign for him. Think about it what player is going to choose between in a Conference side in Bristol or Div 2 side in Essex. If he lives in the SE he was never coming here.

We don't score enough goals because we have no killer ball. Same last season. Going out and buying a striker would be a waste of time. We need creative midfielders and wingers. It's last seasons scenario all over again I've had a gutsfull.
