Because the club won't go anywhere without goals (other than down to league 2). So it would be nice to have a proven striker at this level. Getting a proven striker at this level does not mean he is going to guarantee goals any more than a non proven striker. For comparison I give you Mickey Evans, proven at this level AND higher but the pits for us: On the other hand, Barry Hayles who was unproven above non league, so not even fourth tier experience, but he DID do the business at this level. Proven striker...what exactly does that mean though ?.....someone who scored 10-15 goals I guess for a few seasons. That's what you could probably buy for a hundred thousand or so. Would that really be improving on the squads current strikers ? When teams who want promotion have bought strikers of quality from within the division its cost big money.......Rickie Lambert to Southampton ,Barry hayles to Fulham for example. I do not believe the owners wish to spend big money at the present. If promotion happens it will be a bonus on a small budget. There is little point in having an expensive squad in the championship if you are playing at the mem. I know there is a three year grace for stadia to become all seater when the championship is reached....but what about the premier league ? Would a terraced section be allowed or be forced to close or be immediately converted ? Not going to happen but what if rovers got promoted this season then won the playoff final in the championship ?......At best the uwe would only be half built by then. Would a converted mem of about 6-7000 be allowed in the prem ?......minimum away allocation and segregation......maybe 4500-5000 home fans tops.

More than happy with our forward options now Mattee is on board.Got a good feeling Luke James will score plenty for us and spur Mattee on at the same time. Have rated James in the games I've seen him play so far, even if he hasn't hit the net. Think he'll be more of a Bodin / Easter type player Bodin / Easter type player ? One runs at players from wide positions and scores goals when it works but naturally a lot of the time it doesn't work, the other keeps possession. Very different players i think.

Saw him doing a bit of both of that in all the games I saw him at to be honest!

Well if he can beat players and score like bodin does and keep possession like Easter does then we've got one hell of a player on our hands. UTG

Mildy, macca, Easter, Lawrence could all be described as past it if we wanted to be cynical. They all ended up below LG1 for some reason or another right? You could have said the same two summers ago when most of them were in the Conference, then add Lines to the list when he joined us. All now have a point to prove, perhaps they can raise their game back to Div 1 level, perhaps they can't but without them helping us achieve promotion late last season we'd be probably still be in Div 2. If they can't hack it we know from the way DC dealt with Blisset last season then he'll soon look to move them on.
