If he scores regularly he will probably leave in January, if not he wont be top scorer anyway. Why ? I feel there is some sort of agreement in place where he would sign for us, but would be allowed to speak to other clubs if they came in for him. If he hits the ground running then that could be as early as Jan.

Zero chance why? If Taylor stays all season then he has a chance. If he scores regularly he will probably leave in January, if not he wont be top scorer anyway. Using that argument I guess any other player who is top in January would also be leaving their clubs if you think Championship clubs will come in for them. It may happen to MT but no more than other top scorers.

Do you want to bet 2 pints of beer that someone other than Matty will ? OK, of our current squad only Taylor will score more than 10 league goals. You could be buying a lot of drinks if you're offering that to Tue public market. Billy Bodin will get ten.

There's a hell of a lot of people on this thread that seem to be 100% sure of what's going to happen this season. We're going in to the Unknown just like we were last season, Taylor might struggle to score lots this season , he's going to be a marked man from day one and it could well work out that rather than Gafney running around like a blue arsed fly creating space for Taylor maybe they'll have two men on Taylor he'll be driving deep or wide and Gafney will have a boat loads of time and space on his hands. Stick Harrison in there and yep lazy as he might seem at times he might well take advantage of the chaos in defences left by our oppositions manager pre match talks in how to deal with Taylor. Taylor could be the perfect decoy for Billy Bob to keep cutting in and for the likes of Harrison and Gafney to start scoring more and more frequently. I think Easter will be more of the same , he'll receive the ball he'll bring it down and he'll play it to a Rovers shirt and whilst I'll commend him for that I don't think he'll score many because other than for one season donkeys years ago he never has. The good thing about it is we've got options and whilst our opposition will be pre occupied with Tatty maylor we've got others that will drive in and chip in too.

DC will have something lined up if Taylor keeps scoring no doubt about it.

It reminds a bit of our early 90's side under Gerry which got promoted to the championship. I think if we keep it together we'll be ok but if it gets pulled apart we'll have to start all over again and might well struggle. The thing that's in our favour this time is we don't have to sell to survive. For the first time in over 30 years supporting the gas we've managed to hold on to a top manager and all of our top players following a couple of great seasons. Long may it continue. UTG.

Of course, its pretty much a selling division, there are 2 leagues higher that most players would sell their grannies to play in.
I think MT has already got one eye on his next move following the summer saga, and maybe his agent will be pushing for a move more than most if he scores regularly in L1.
I have no problem in Matty leaving, was just concerned it would have been for free. Now he has signed i'd be happy to see him leave and give us a nice transfer fee and possible sell-on etc.

Don't disagree with any of that. Yes, I'm sure he will gave something in contract about going but let's say he were the top scorer come mid-Jan then I suspect we would be doing fairly well and probably be in top half of table or even better. So we could be looking at another promotion race. Were that the case I bet MT might think I'll stay to season end then go because he will want to be part of a successful side, knowing that would make him a very hot property. Depending on what we do might cause him to re think what he does. That's all a long way in the future I know but the threads about being top scorer and if he was I think it changes lots of things!! UTG!

You never know, Will Hoskins scored quite a few goals in a poor side. More often than not though you are right; I guess it depends who comes in for him, more clubs might be willing to pay larger wages to him if he proves himself in L1. I'm just glad we have some security now with him signing a new deal. He wouldn't get in my top 10 Rovers strikers (obvs he will be gutted at this news!!) but he is certainly the best we have currently imo.

Yes agree, Will H was a good player in a poorish side. But as we know this side, we know they are not as poor as that one. As you say his signing does give us some security and that he dud that shows how committed to us he is. Most players would not have done that and I think that should show everyone his feeling for us. UTG!

I'd like to think that if he's still scoring and we're top 6 in January he'd want to stay and become our top scorer in three successive promotions. If we then went on to win promotion or lose out he could leave at the end of the season or stay and play in the championship on a new improved deal that would probably match half the clubs in the championship. If on the other hand he's still scoring and hot property and the rest of them aren't bearing so well in league 1 I wouldn't be surprised if he jumped ship in the window. Whatever happens we'll either keep our top player or get boat loads of money for him so we'll be OK either way.

You may be right but being a free agent as opposed to being a contracted player is different and it does give the club more security. By signing a contract he's given up a big signing on fee. Whatever, this was done to death 10 days ago, he's now our player and I'm looking forward to seeing him score a lot more goals. UTG!

If you had to make a massive life changing decision that would probably effect whether you go on to be successful in what you do and probably make or break your career (and a short career at that ) and you had a couple of months to make that decision would you jump in to it and make a knee jerk decision or would you sit down take a little break from it all and take your time over it ? I'd do the latter.

I expect there will be a release clause amount in Taylor's contract, which given that he held all the aces, will not be too high. If he continues to do well, don't be surprised to see him leave for an 'undisclosed fee'.
